Kitchens Design Dilemma

Light tiles, light worktops amd dark cabinets

Hi there.
We are planning to have dark grey kitchen cabinets with a white/light quartz worktop. Also having light floor tiles like the one below. Trying to decide whether a light worktop woth these tiles will look good. Appreciate any thoughts or ideas?

My stepdaughter has mid grey cupboards, white quartz worktop and marble effect flooring, similar to yours. Although not to my taste it does look very bright and smart. I personally would have chosen a wood or wood effect floor to warm things up a but we all have different tastes so go with what you love.

Thank you Sonia. This is the xountertop we have almost finalised. With either dark grey or dual blue cabinets. I totally get what you're saying but so hard to visualise all 3 of them together!

Hello Dennisha, Oh I say... I think you could easily transform this bathroom.. One thing though, I do actually like the tub.. Could you keep this? Tile round it in a new and exciting marble or travertine. Keep it's step too or even make it a bit wider. Add a half glass screen plain for the shower.. Wall hung loo and basin. New taps... New mirror although the shape is not bad, maybe it could go somewhere else. One thing that would change the feel is if you had a roman blind or a venetian blind here instead of the curtains.. Have included a few things like tiles... basin and some fantastic nickel taps I love.. If you choose a really tasteful sink that comes from a cheaper place, you could add a more expensive fitting... Help me choose kitchen worktops and possible splashback/tiles

Hi, I've now had quartz worktops fitted in a white with grey and mirror flecks (compact lactea) & attach photos. Cabinets are all done too. My next area is what to do for splashback behind the hob/under the extractor. I originally wanted to do red glass across the length of the wall, but we have had under unit lights fitted below the higher cabinets and at night I can change these to any colour I want. If I do red all across I won't get the effect of the lights. Not even sure red would go? The wooden chairs are going and will be replaced & I still need to choose my island lights (thinking 3 pendants hanging). Husband thinks stainless steel sheet behind hob. I'm not sure this will look right with dark glass hob under it & wonder if it is hard to look clean all the time. What ideas do you all have as you helped with the worktops. I also show the dining table and the new open lounge area (intend to put a rug down). We also still need to find wall lights.

After having seen the style and look you like, although we spoke about dark cabinets initially, with the floor you have chosen which would compliment any style, how about considering a natural wood like worktop? If you would like a light, and airy look and feel to the kitchen, neutral coloured cabinets would suit the look of your kitchen, paired with a slightly darker splashback to add that luxe feel back to the kitchen. This combination of a darker splashback, with wood and then lighter cabinets would also work well with your accent gold bar stools in the first image you showed. Keeping the foundation of your kitchen balanced and adding accessories such as gold bar stools and some decorative elements to give it that sparkle and glint that you like! (featured here is our petrol blue splashback panel, however I feel our blueberry panel would also work really well with this combination)

Lol! A black tap might also look nice? In answer anyway personally I'd go for the light grey, although striking I think more muted colours work better with "black". I might look at a wood/wood effect floor. You might also consider a clear glass splashback behind the hob and cover the wallpaper in matt decorators varnish (I think Cole and son recommend one on their website). It looks really striking though

I have mid grey fascias, white with a tint of vein for worktops and darkwood LVT flooring. It is indeed personal taste but for me that worktop is too busy especially if you’re having a two tone kitchen.

Hi Deepak, my honest opinion is that is a very busy worktop which will dominate the whole look. I would go for a less busy option. Something like these that have the marbling but in a more subtle way.

Thank you Sonia, these look very good. The main thing being our flooring is going to be white marbling effect tiles. Most of the pictures I see online are woth wood effect flooring. But we don't want wood. So trying to visualise

If you want a worktop with a marble or vein effect look at Carrera marble tones. Mine is solid surface and is called Taj Mahal. You can barely see the vein. Here is a photo

Having just stayed in a house with a super busy looking granite worktop you realise you cant actually see when it is properly clean after cooking. Imo go for the worktop with a more subtle vein, which will look really smart with the dark cabinets. ( Love the floor tiles! )

Also any thoughts on having this for the island with a very light vein for the rest of the countertops? I'm just not sure of having a vein in the flooring and vein in the island.

It all boils down to your taste. However, mid-grey or a wooden worktop would look really good and complement the white marble look pretty well!
