Sofa placement in double living room

Hi, we want to buy a sofa for our living room and is so difficult to decide on a setup. Initially, we were thinking to have a 3 seater sofa between the doors (bottom side of the picture) and a 2/3 seater near the left wall, under the window. But might be too much distance between. Now, I think I would preffer a 3 seater plus 2 chairs, that would be more flexible in regards the placement.

Hi Marian,

Maybe you could use some modular sofas instead of the classical ones and change the room layout anytime (flexible room design).

I think breaking it in separate zones would help style it. But place the couch in the centre, coffee table in centre of the room with a 2 seater to the left and a L couch to the right. I would place the furniture on a big rug that would feed into the 'zone'. So imagine if TV is on the middle wall on the back, you can chill on the L couch comfortably and when people visit it's more social.

Then use smaller zones in the corners of the room, so the right of the room a single chair and side table as a little areal and perhaps bookshelves etc to the left of the room

I answered Other because although ideally a rug would be longer in length than sofa (or atleast the same length) I have seen rooms with smaller rugs and it can still work. Would depend on the furniture placement, proportions etc.

Tbh I’d have just one of those chairs and bring it down to the rhs of the sofa, set into the room slightly, two other smaller dining chairs to replace the first choice ones, your getting the table anyway so you need chairs, I think these are to big for dining chairs and certainly for a small table, other thing is, when you sitting in them what are your going to be doing? To far away to easily socialise with anyone on the far side of the sofa, difficult angle to see the tv, just my thoughts :-)

Hope people don't mind giving one more opinion. For the TV, the options I have is to remove it from the wall and put it in the left-hand corner of the room. I'd put it diagonally so it can be some from most parts of the room (otherwise the chimney breast is in the way). I'd keep the electric fireplace in that case. Alternatively, I can keep the TV on the chimney breast but I'd need to remove the electric fireplace (as mentioned above). I'd put a shelf or two in the hole left by the fireplace and plaster the edges. I'd probably put some gadgets for the TV (like playstation or soundbar) in their. However if I end up still not liking the TV on the chimney breast I would put it in the left hand corner as planned. The chimney breast would look a bit bear but thought I could fill the hole with wood (saw some examples of this online) and maybe put a mirror above it. Here is another picture of the current chimney breast. For the first plan the TV would go on the left under the shelves (when the sofa is removed).

The tv is already set for right side of the fireplace. In the alcove cupboards.

You have two doors to accommodate which might be what’s making the placement of furniture harder? What is the rest of the downstairs like? Could you close the one to the left of the fireplace and then have really big squish sofa along that wall? I’ve looked and large sofas come in at 250cm ish. Then a big snuggle chair could work in the bay with a floor lamp. To the left of the sofa you could have a similar chair or a bigger sofa but you have the space to do whatever you want 😊
