Bed disaster! Advice desperately wanted!
Comments (143)Well, maybe when the kitchen stuff is out you can try different options (ones you want to try) in the wardrobe area and see what you like best. (Actually, there isn't that much stuff next to wardrobe.....up to you, though. Hmmmm. In the meantime, I think you could look for hardware for the cabinets and something for the end of the bed that isn't green....See MoreParquet floor disaster? Help
Comments (166)Those are wise words Karen! am so glad it worked out for you. Love to see a photo, what colour or shade did you choose? Jools, The bitumen is a right pig, best way we found is to make it cold, so it becomes brittle, then you can scrape /chip it off. We used a window scraper, coarse wire wool and various sandpaper. We left the window open on a cold night, turned heating off in there, and you could try a cooler fan on it. Putting ice bags on it didn't work as well as we hoped. we used a round sander, but it can cause swirls, it's really awkward ! To be honest a few dips and scratches on an old floor are okay in the end, don't be too afraid of it, they are only pieces of wood stuck down on the floor, not bone china, as long as you try not to break them, or set fire to them, otherwise you can't possibly do more damage than I did, and they recovered!...See MoreLooking for fantastic interiors to feature in our new Channel 4 show!

Comments (10)I feel your pain and you are not alone, albeit yours is an extreme case. We were left with a crap subfloor in our (cripplingly expensive) kitchen extension. I won’t bore u as I posted about it before. The only real solution is to rip it out and redo - however due to underfloor heating and a kitchen being installed this isn’t immediately feasible and without an admission that thingsarent right (settlement my arse) we aren’t in a hurry to address things, even cosmetically, we can’t afford to! my friend and neighbour is 3 yrs down the line following building work and only just finishing (small Victorian semi!) due to a whole litany of bad practice-builders (with every credential going inc loads of recommendation) went awol, Plumber’s work led to condemned boiler., all new bathrooms had to be ripped out the list goes on. another friend is paying 15k to have roof work redone after a bodge job from her builder who got off at court due to a technicality. theres no answer other than confronting them, escalating cases to legal eagles, and naming and shaming those who rip u off and take no responsibility for bad practice or even sometimes genuine errors. once u get your house back you’ll soon get inspired and want to finish it off nicely (and quickly)! Have u lined up someone to redo works?...See More- 4 years agolast modified: 4 years ago
