Bed disaster! Advice desperately wanted!
Comments (143)Well, maybe when the kitchen stuff is out you can try different options (ones you want to try) in the wardrobe area and see what you like best. (Actually, there isn't that much stuff next to wardrobe.....up to you, though. Hmmmm. In the meantime, I think you could look for hardware for the cabinets and something for the end of the bed that isn't green....See MoreParquet floor disaster? Help
Comments (166)Those are wise words Karen! am so glad it worked out for you. Love to see a photo, what colour or shade did you choose? Jools, The bitumen is a right pig, best way we found is to make it cold, so it becomes brittle, then you can scrape /chip it off. We used a window scraper, coarse wire wool and various sandpaper. We left the window open on a cold night, turned heating off in there, and you could try a cooler fan on it. Putting ice bags on it didn't work as well as we hoped. we used a round sander, but it can cause swirls, it's really awkward ! To be honest a few dips and scratches on an old floor are okay in the end, don't be too afraid of it, they are only pieces of wood stuck down on the floor, not bone china, as long as you try not to break them, or set fire to them, otherwise you can't possibly do more damage than I did, and they recovered!...See MoreWhat's your worst household disaster?
Comments (11)A few years ago I redecorated my bedroom, new wallpaper, paint, carpet, bed, bedding, etc. I got a little over enthusiastic towards the end and decided I would vacuum the carpet, iron the duvet and put all the furnishings back in place before the kids returned from school. All began well, carpets looked gorgeous, I began to shift my little Victorian washstand and knocked over a mirror propped by its side. It tore my new wallpaper!!! I turned to rescue the mirror and heard a 'thunk', the iron had fallen off the ironing board and landed face down, on the carpet, across the vacuum electrical cord, burning through both!!! Unthinking, I grabbed the iron and BANG,!! I was on the other side of the room - thank god for circuit breakers!!! So, I now had torn wallpaper, a burnt out iron, a blown up vacuum cleaner, a burn in my new carpet and shock!!! I hid the burn in the carpet with a pair of pretty shoes and no one noticed that for weeks, lol!!!...See MoreDesign Disaster
Comments (4)Sorry to hear this. I have a 9 year old Carron ceramic sink which has got a bit scratched over the years, but no chips. Much as I love ceramic sinks, they aren’t that robust, and now the plug leaks, so we bought a replacement plug and that leaks! So we now have to use a washing up bowl which in turn scratches the sink........... I do believe a company is only as good as their after care. On a slightly different take, I had a Stoves ceramic hob that developed an error one week before the 1st year Warranty ended. It was found to have a burnt out circuit board (after 1 year?) but part was out of stock and they had no idea how long it would take to get a new one. What?! I then asked to speak to someone in charge as I wanted the whole hob replaced and it was no way to treat a customer. They agreed. However I was without a hob for 3 weeks including over Xmas. This is a British company with British made hobs and cookers but they are rubbish. You are right, research, research, research. Trustpilot is brilliant for giving true unadulterated reviews. I would be tempted to suggest they replace the sink, even though I know you probably don’t want another one, as maybe your one was badly made? Or email the Chief Executive with your complaint as that tends to get things moving. I hope you come to an amicable conclusion....See MoreJuliet Docherty
