Bedroom Paint Thoughts please
Hi,
I'm trying to decide on paint colours for my bedroom which is north-facing with little natural light (only one small window). I actually like that as it means there is little light pollution when sleeping, but it's making it hard to choose colours because the light is so dingy and variable.
As you can see, the main colours are dark blue velvet, white and silver/grey. I'll be replacing the laminate flooring throughout the flat, including that room, with white oak hardwood.
I'm thinking of painting the adjacent (no natural light) hallway F&B Breakfast Room Green or Card Room Green. There is an en-suite which I intend to do mainly in white.
I quite like the idea of a blue/green/grey like this: https://www.interiorsbycolor.com/dulux-milky-spearmint-paint-color/ but it doesn't appear to be available in the UK.

Comments (5)OK i think you have a number of challenges here. First up does that cot not collapse? It looks like a travel cot. If it does then take it down immediately and store it in the loft or under the bed. I'm not sure that your furniture placement is correct. The bed next to the wardrobe looks odd and the bed looks like it is blocking the radiator. Will the head of the bed go against the wall with the single shelf? Personally I'd remove the sink. Sinks in bedrooms are not a good look. Understand that you might need it though if you only have one bathroom though. Remove all of the shelving. Curtains are way too short and should be floor length. Easily fixed by attaching some fabric to the bottom. Your curtain pole is also too low and should be closer to the ceiling. I'd add coving and then a soft grey on the walls. Something like ammonite perhaps or if you want blue then Skylight which is a nice blue/grey (depending on the light) which would go with the blues already present in the carpet and curtains. Comments (12)Hi Claire, Do the doors actually open inwards into the room? How about considering place the bed in the center of the room facing the doors? You would disguise the back of the bed with a thin console table which have some dressing style storage (jewelry etc) and can hold some tall flowers and candles to set the mood on entering. There's lots of ways you can add the luxury feel you are looking but this would create real impact and make the bed the real feature of the space. If budget allows I would hang lights from the ceiling ad beside lights and layer up on dressing for an even more luxurious feel. I have attached one of my clients bedroom design (single room re-design package) to show you the hanging lighting idea - if this isn't possible then a well placed small chandelier style light would have a great effect on the space. I have 3 of them here in different hues: grey-green (Squid Ink by Paper Library), blue-green (Inchyra Ball by F&B), and dark green (Symphony M439 by Tikkurila), which is not dissimilar to the Jotun colour you picked and available in the UK. Nb: I also painted the ceilings with the same colours. I find dark bedrooms so restful and appeasing. Comments (7)I think you would actually be ok with taking the color over it all. It probably depends more on how you wanted the room to feel. The current lighter tone gives space to the room, but your selection Oval Room Blue, would probably give you a more intimate feel. With white items such as wardrobes etc, it could end up giving a coastal feel which you could build on as a theme with linen bedclothes, lampshades, blinds....See More

I would stick to pale, warm warm colours personally as the ceiling isn’t overly high (and use something a few shades lighter on the ceiling). You could try mylands threadneedle or Little Greene Simplicity but there are a number of similar colours around.
i hope you dont mind me saying as you didn’t ask but i might try making the window look a little bigger by using roman blinds outside of the recess. Ignore what I used, was just trying to find a blind at the right camera angle! It just seems to balance out the tv and headboard height?
