Living Rooms Design Dilemma Kitchens

L Shape Extension

Hi All
Decent size L shape extension
How did you decide what to position where? We’re looking to get a kitchen, dining and snug out of this space. (Showing as just kitchen on the image)
Keep going backwards and forward on how best to use the space
Any thoughts / ideas are welcome

I'd have kitchen area near utility and dining area near kitchen. So living area would be in narrowest part.

Are you aware that building a 'L' shape extension will need planning permission first, this will set you back another 3-4 months. Plus Building Regs would need reapplying for. Also, from my experience conservatories only need building regs approval if they are over 30sqm; which means most conservatories are shoddy built and the foundations are unlikely to be suitable for the transformation into a proper extension. Also, the floor is unlikely to have been insulated - sorry but conservatories can be a hornets nest of problems. My advice is yes you should have a door off the hallway into the new room, cost of that should be minimal as you are only looking at using a couple of standard concrete lintels which are cheap as chips! Although I would have put the shower room at the front as the current layout means friends and visitors end up going through your kitchen to use the convenience. It has the advantage the new reception room as a rear garden outlook. Hope that helps

This stuff is out of my depth but I did have a few thoughts. Agree with you about light worries especially for the rooms behind. I think I’d want as much glazing as possible and evenly spaced too. How wide is it? Because I’ve seen photos of multiple openings of French doors where the repetition really looked good. I would also go with repeated sky lights too. Another thing to consider is that fixed windows let lots of light in since the frames are much slimmer. Anyhow, you’re more likely to get good suggestions on here if you post dimensions and photos. :)

Why don't you open up space? knock the wall between the kitchen and the living area and make it one large space. I would change the setup of the kitchen and create like an island-like feel Cigal Kaplan Interiors

I would put a TV on one side of the chimney breast shared with the dining room with sofa floating opposite. Then I would put the dining area beside a door to the garden and the kitchen at the bottom of the room on the diagram.

I can see the dilemma.….a kitchen tucked away to the left but a distance from the utility/wc or entering through the kitchen to get to the leisure areas.

What direction do the patio doors face? considerations might be a south facing kitchen too warm for cooking perhaps….the central wall between the two patio doors an allseeing/no glare TV position.….the chimney backing the dining room a place for Aga/Hob/two way fireplace….

My first thought was kitchen then dining room ….and sitting room to the left…a false cabinet/ ‘secret‘ door to the utility/wc a TV on the centre wall…..more details would help…

Wow youve built an amazing space and can start with blank canvas.

I’d be tempted to keep the kitchen to right, in close proximity to the utility. The chimney breast can serve as a feature to be incorporated into the kitchen. See the attached picture below, ignore the aesthetic - whether its contemporary modern or traditional, that will be your personal choice - its just to give you some inspiration.

Then i would have a kitchen island running parrallel to the utility wall, which will house the sink, dishwasher etc accessed on the utlility wall side. Then on the other side incorporate a raised breakfast bar.

On the right hand side of the room you’ve got room for some relaxed seating, coffee table etc for your morning caffeine hit 😃
