Kitchen design help

Hello,
Myself and my boyfriend have recently bought our first home and are looking at renovating the kitchen. Pictures of the kitchen design we are thinking of are attached. However, it isn't the biggest kitchen. I'm worried that the breakfast bar surface on the opposite wall to all the main units will make it feel quite narrow when we are both trying to use the kitchen. What do you think? Our main reason for the bfast bar was additional work surface space, but maybe there is enough already. I know everyone's opinion is different but would be interested to know what others think-keep the bfast bar or take it out? Thank you

It’s only a narrow breakfast bar by the look of it and bearing in mind you don’t have a lot of worktop space l’d keep it otherwise you will have wasted space.

If you’re planning to use the breakfast bar to eat at & include seating too, I think it would possibly be in the way. If you can get shallow cupboards underneath it, I think it would be more useful as I’d be concerned about lack of storage more than lack of worktop space.
The other alternative is a small moveable butchers trolley or moveable mini island unit.

Hi Hayley. I think I would use the garage as a living room - it will be such a nice space with the exposed beams, and putting a fire in here will make it amazing! So, I would make the kitchen and island similar to the below - you will then have space to have a walk in pantry or utility room (or even just other storage) behind the kitchen. If you are wanting/able to move the boiler, then this would open up more space, but would also cost a lot more. If you went with this sort of layout, there is a few ways you could configure the full height kitchen units. I think its important to have both an island/breakfast bar, and then a free standing table, as i feel the image you shared above from Wren, there is a bit of a disconnect between the kitchen and the island. This layout means you have essentially 1 open plan space downstairs assuming this is the full footprint. I would have the front reception closed from the kitchen and use this wall space to reimagine your kitchen and have entry to reception from hall only. I would consider putting the dining area where current kitchen is and break the window to have full length if possible where your sink is. Island and full kitchen with a seating area toward door overlooking the back garden.

Personally I think the biggest improvement to this design would be blocking up one of the windows…. This would mean you could have all of your tall units together and then a large uninterrupted run of preparation space.

Separately I think the breakfast bar is unnecessary as it’s in an area that you will never use- you are going to do everything around the sink and hob
