Candles seem to have a calming effect on people. I prefer unscented candles, as scented candles can overwhelm a small space, especially a table designated for eating. But even in the daylight, candles emit something that says "this is a very special moment, relax and enjoy yourself!"

Have you tried BHS (British Home Stores)? My best lighting purchases have all come from there. They regularly have new ranges, I find them very competitively priced, and the products to be well designed and made. You won't find their full range in store, so look online first. If you order online, delivery is free when you spend £25 minimum or you can collect in store, and if you decide the item is not suitable you can return it for free (they will even collect it from you!) Finally, they very frequently have promotions, e.g 30% off, so if you find one you like it might be worth trying to check when the next one is...you could save a lot of money with the amount of lights you need. Good luck...don't forget to let us know whether you splurge on the Laura Ashley ones or if you find an alternative :)

I think because you have the length/depth of the desk, I would suggest running the lighting behind the desk (so similar to your final example but running in the L shape!). I only have experience using these lights in kitchen bars but attached is a link which would be super easy for you to install yourself. Under Cabinet Lighting

Hi - I agree with Ellie, these are very bling! Of course it all depends on the look and feel you are after. If you want it to look bling and sparkly then by all means go for it. Question to you is how do you want it to feel? Though looking back at pictures of your kitchen in the other post, the look and feel seems to be a bit more elegant and chic and I would look into the glass pendants I suggested for your island. In terms of the dining area - how big is your table and do you want to create drama or have something understated? Again its all about how you want the room to feel?
