Amtico versus Kardean flooring
Comments (9)In reply to winterfloods:- We have Karndean 'Van Gogh - Antique Pine', which is also wood effect - even has woodworm holes on it. We had it laid about 6 years ago and it's the best floor we've ever had. It cover most of the ground floor including, snug, dining room, kitchen, utility room and downstairs bathroom. We have had the same non-slip in the Utility Room for the Dogs to zoom over and hopefully touch at some point for years. This one:- Rubber Mat. NEVER MOVES - and the dogs aren't small or careful! Our floor is the most forgiving floor we've ever had. The dogs don't scratch it, it's been flooded on twice, is never slippery, even when newly mopped. It disguises the dog hair and dirt until hoovered every day, ( they shed a lot of hair ). I think maybe your sister has just been unlucky. Karndean as far as i am aware is superior to Amtico and we would never have anything else now....See MoreCan you varnish over chalk paint??
Comments (17)Hi! I have used wax (Johnsons Durosil) & satin wayer-based varnish over home made chalk paint (calcium carbonate version) & both worked out well. I love the feel & look of the wax - it's lovely to touch - but decided on a satin varnish for a hall table for durability. Having bags, keys, etc dumped on a wax finish could have it looking tatty in no time. Besides I have two cats that perch (& launch themselves) on it often. I'd definitely use a hard wax finish otherwise....See MoreFlooring - Karndean vs Amtico??
Comments (6)I have a similar product which had a different laying system put in about 9 years ago and it is great. Dogs mud etc As this product is no longer available in UK I am now putting Amtico down in another room. My main problem has been that the floor is concrete with no foundations or damp proof course due to age of property. I don't get damp but the vinyl tiles will seal even a small amount so I am having to have a DPC painted on first. Hence the other system previously it was not entirely sealed like Amtico and Karndean. So it is the laying that is costing me even more than usual and that is not cheap. I have found little difference in price between Amtico Spacia and Karndean at the better quality end of their range. So it is colour match that has driven my decision. What I have been confused with is Karndean guarantee. Some say 15 years for domestic use but a very reputable supplier tells me it is now 35 years across the range. Amtico is clear for the cheaper Spacia range it is 25 years. I know both products will tolerate hard wear as they are in use in so many shops & restaurents....See MoreLVT (amtico or karndean) or Solid Wood for living area
Comments (9)Hi Gerty, we think there's nothing quite like the natural look and feel of real wood. It's timelessly stylish and strong. An engineered wood floor will provide even better stability than a solid as it's constructed of three sturdy layers. And if you're ever thinking of moving home in the future, real wood will add value and be attractive to buyers. As for your worries about fading, natural light will naturally mature your floors colour over time. We recommend that you take care to move around any large pieces of furniture and rugs every so often to allow an even maturing of colour across the floor. Something as simple as drawing the blinds during hours of bright sunlight could help too. We have a number of resources on our blog which could be handy when making your decision: 10 Reasons to Choose Wood Flooring Engineered Wood: The Fantastic Benefits How to Clean Wood Flooring I hope that helps.
