We are building a similar design extension and are south facing. We did make some design changes after last year’s super hot summer. Here’s what we have done to hopefully avoid cooking in future: - solar control glass - made sure there are at least two opening bits of glass, including one in the ceiling of the extension to allow hot air out - Ideally you also want something openable at both front and back of the house (and obviously doors open in between) to allow a through draught. We just about have this though not as good as I’d like. - we are also providing wiring so we can install two awnings, one over the back sliding doors and possibly one over the largest (very large) skylight. May be overkill and we may not need the skylight one but good to have the option. The back door awning also provides privacy and shade for the outdoor dining table. As an alternative to awnings you could use internal blinds for your doors and/or skylights.

Hi Sam, glad you liked the ideas. If it were my room I would wallpaper the whole fireplace wall Including the alcoves. Imagine that wallpaper behind your tables, fab! For the rest of the walls I would go with a very pale grey, lighter than the sofa. However, if you want drama, then go for navy to match the paper, but if there’s no window it may well be too much! These are just suggestions and hopefully you will get more comments tonight. There’s a great team of Houzzers who are incredibly cleverer than me! 😊

Hi, I would look to go with horizontal stripes as a theme such as pre-scotched black scaffold boards with spaces between... The short return could then interrupt this flow with vertical boards. Yellow or Orange window frames also with the same 1930`s style horizontal glazing bars would make a stunning contrast.

Love your kitchen, you’ve done a great job, not only does the kitchen look good, it’s totally practical, drawers are the way forward, even if they are more expensive than cupboards. I’ve just redone a kitchen in a house we rent out, the old one was finally falling apart. I was going to go to Howdens and use the joiner etc we knew, but in the end we used a small local company, which cost us £300 more, but the quality of their interior cabinets and doors was so outstanding, plus they could do everything, including tiling, we went with them. We didn’t change the floor, but did everything necessary, I’m hoping it lasts well and our tenants look after it!
