high wall advice

Any advice on how we should finish this high wall? The doors lead to pantry & utility and will be metal framed sliders, do you think there needs to be some sort of feature to the large blank space above or simply paint or finish in an internal feature cladding perhaps. Ideas would be very much appreciated , thank you

Impressive height wall. I would say it depends on what finish you have chosen for the other walls. Are they plasterboarded out? You could make a feature out of it with wooden cladding or brick slips if you like industrial style. Think of the space as a whole. It depends on where you want to place the emphasis. You could render it and paint it or leave it bare plastered with a sealant? It depends on your style, floor finish and the look you are trying to create. You could also just have it white and use the height for large artwork. You could also have a light feature on that wall if it was plainer.

I'd simply plaster+paint it with the rest of the room. Wait with the decor until it's finished.

I imagine some pretty pendants coming down from that ceiling, making patterns allover.

Yes, sorry, they are far too high. It will look much better if they are brought down to be reading lights either side of the headboard. Bedside lamps and keeping them where they are will look weird. Did you specify the height to the electrician? If so, he may move them for you for no extra cost. Do you need any other electrical work doing? If so, he might be amenable to negotiating if you didn't specify the height. Even though you've just painted, and it will be a pain and frustrating to move them, it will be worth it on the end. That's my opinion anyway. Especially if this is to be your sanctuary.

Long story but in a nutshell we are just starting an extension but have an 11,000 volt electrical cable running very close, if not under where it is going to be built. Has anyone had experience of this? Have quite a few questions! Currently trying to liaise with UK power network about this but they are hard to contact. Is there a certain distance foundations need to be from cable? Can we duct it? Any idea of cost if we have to move it? Thanks!

Hi Gillian do you like the colour of the wall as it is at the moment? Personally I think the colour of the wall is fine, I wouldn't be inclined to paint it a different colour as a feature wall nor would I paint it a darker colour as I think this will make the wall feel like it's crashing down on top of you! Rather than painting the wall would you look at changing the wall lights to something bigger that make more of a statement? I would also be looking at installing shutters/Venetian blinds/pleated blinds on the lower windows and the door. Do you have a photo of the right hand side-I wondered if there is room for a window seat there or a large potted plant to break up the wall area.

I’ve just had the same issue and I opted to get all walls plastered then sanded down to give completely smooth walls. They were then painted and the finish was excellent. I paid for tradesmen to do all of this as I wouldn’t have achieved such a quality finish.

I would plaster it then paint it the same colour as the rest of the walls. I don’t think it is the kind of area you would make a feature of such as a fireplace wall.
