Hello,

We're finding designing this bathroom with tiles tricky. Initially, I thought I'd like to zone the shower with different tiles but the window to the right sits half way into the space. Would tiling the whole area in one tile and a different floor tile be too boring? It gets damp to tiling all walls would be preferred. Thanks!

Totally get where you're coming from—zoning the shower with different tiles sounds like a great idea, but the window placement does make things a bit tricky. In this case, tiling the entire space with one tile might actually work in your favour.

Here’s why:
- One Tile for the Walls: Using a single tile across all the walls, including the shower area, can create a seamless, cohesive look, which can help make the space feel larger and less visually chopped up (especially with that window cutting into the shower zone).
- Texture or Pattern: If you're worried about it looking too plain, you could choose a tile with a subtle texture, pattern, or even a slight variation in tone to add interest while keeping it uniform. Matte or satin finishes can also help prevent it from looking too flat.
- Contrast with Floor Tile: Then, you can use a contrasting tile on the floor to add some depth and definition. A patterned floor tile or one in a bold colour can bring personality without overpowering the space.
Since it gets damp, fully tiling the walls is definitely a smart move, and it’ll help with maintenance too. If you still want a bit of zoning, consider adding a feature within the shower—maybe a vertical strip of accent tile or a niche with a pop of colour or texture.

Personally I don’t like wall to floor tiling, but many do. I would tile in the shower and tile behind the sink. You could just do a small backsplash, or tile all the way up to the ceiling from the sink. Then just paint the walls. Here’s some examples of what I mean.

I would still suggest tanking/waterproofing the room prior to the installation of a standard shower tray or bath. Waterproofing membranes with the European Technical Approval will withstand normal movement within a house but the flooring and walls need to be of sound construction - a wetroom can be properly fitted in age of building. These principles apply to a standard tray or bath as the silicone beading around the edge may fail (from movement/age) and let wall bypass the tray, causing damage to the building underneath. This picture was taking after a bath with wall mounted shower was removed. The silicone had failed causing the wood to rot. This was all replaced and the below was created in its place: A bath will be easier for people with young children and if you plan to sell on, a wetroom will appeal to some where a bath will appeal more to others. Which ever path you choose (both your designs look nice) I would recommend waterproofing the room before it is installed. Kind Regards Mike

It may seem counterintuitive but maybe start with a good plumber/bathroom fitter? Anything is possible with the right budget and unlimited time. Well almost anything, a bathroom has quite a lot of piping and drains which are not even visible. There is little point in having a dream design created for you only to find out that due to constraints it is not possible. Great idea for buying stuff ahead. I am already gathering items for my bathroom revamp. You will need plumbers advice for items like toilets, slotted or unslotted wastes, basin, bath and shower drains. Buy the most expensive taps you can afford. The cheaper ones tend to be discontinued and I recently had to replace a floor mounted bathfiller tap which required the removal and reinstatement of the freestanding bath. The plumbers bill alone was nearly £500. It took a day and a half. This was all because I had a cheaper bathfiller tap (came with the house) for which the replacement cartridge was discontinued.

I really like the lozenge tiles! Personally i prefer the 1st design (basin included). The 2nd is too busy with the tiles around the loo. I do however prefer the bath taps on the 2nd design, with perhaps a handheld on the shower wall (all jn brass)? I might think about taking the floor tiles up the bath. I love a flos pendant but it doesn’t sit right, I also prefer the brass mirror in the 2nd. Maybe also ask the designer to mock up the boxing in of the loo the whole way across that wall. If the bath could shrink a little you could have a shampoo etc niche under the window above the bath. It is away from the shower but tbh when the niche is close to the shower anything just runs off your hand before it hits your body?! maybe consider epoxy grout? Darker cement grouts aren’t as grubby but may fade or discolour

I don't think two types of tile is boring at all. I have almost finished a bathroom renovation and I have used the same 600 sq porcelain tiles on the walls and the shower. The tiler did replace all the (wet) plasterboard in the shower with something waterproof and much stronger before laying the tiles. I love your choices so far especially those stunning tiles. It depends on the tiles for a fully tiled bathroom. If they are attractive it's a good option.

If you are having damp issues then i would strongly recommending that is sorted first, im assuming you are just missing an extractor or the one you have doesnt work. Important to make sure the timer on it works also.

Tiling wise you could do a different tile in the shower are like an accent tile and then a nice large format tile on the floor. The rest of the room doesnt necessarily need tiling if you dont want it. Can make the room feel bigger and you get the option to change the wall colour with paint which is much quicker than tiling!

Just make sure whoever does the shower area removes all damaged plaster/board and use a cement board on the walls before tiling.
