Any bathroom designers/planners here?

Hi,

A very kind person on Houzz gave me an excellent overall plan for our en suite bathroom renovation.

I’d like to get some materials ahead myself, partly because I want to specify some things very exactly and partly because I know how it goes with builders/fitters if things are delayed and it will already take months for someone good to be available.

So I’m hoping to get as much bought ahead as possible.

I think the next stage before I think about style, is that I need a pretty precise drawing? Or at least one that can be tweaked, and some recommendations for more stylistic details?

But I really do need someone who can give detailed bathroom advice as I don’t know enough of the technical details/distances/drainage issues…

Happy to pay for a remote service if you can quote in that basis? I can send precise measurements and photos. Or if you’re in the Midlands/NWish then let me know if you offer a design only service?

Update -- my plumber finally returned. Not sure what he did while here, but he told me again it wasn't working -- then he did some work on a radiator which had a small leak. We were having a long discussion about options on pumps, new showers, taps etc and I read out the installation guide and he tried it again, and suddenly it worked. It is bizarre as I don't know how many times i tried it previously. My friend who works in construction ALSO called earlier today and tried it several times to no avail. It must have been extremely stiff or perhaps the plumber realised some airlock whilst fixing the radiator since I think water pressure is much stronger since he went. Thanks for everyones help -- i learned lots on plumbing and a valuable lesson to take out the installation manuals myself and not trust that trades men know everything!!! I feel like celebrating!!

i cant find a photo (new phone) but i designed a very similar ensuite for my last house. It worked well. i had a walk in, open shower though. With a flush mount track in the ceiling for the shower curtain. But glass would have worked well too. Only suggestions I have is a cavity sliding door would work well there. Also I'd move the doorway up back a little so you have a nib wall where the sink is. However you probably can't fit both of those changes in. If i had to choose i think I'd go for the sliding door, presuming your getting a rounded sink as shown in plan. I'll keep looking for a photo for you.

Karen, to be honest with you, you do not really need the council's approval (or Lawful Develpment Certificate). As long as you are absolutely sure that what you are doing is within PD, you can just go ahead. The LDC is for future buyers, and can be gained retrospectively. I didn't wait for it on either of my projects - by the time it came from Lambeth I had basically finished the outside of the loft. It is absolutely critical that if you do this, you make sure your plans are compliant though...with loft conversions that is mainly making sure that you do not exceed the maximum additional volume measurements, and that the dormer is set back 20cm from the edge of the original roof. Do make sure your builder is on top of the necessary building control notifications and inspections though - this takes much more effort, and is nothing to do with planning, and absolutely compulsory. Happy to tell you more about this/answer questions: you have my e-mail address. Everything from the specification of windows,through insulation depth required, to position of plug sockets is controlled and needs to be correct.
