I think the island is running the wrong way. What are people walking through to do?

Extend island the full length of kitchen. Remove small dining table. Put double sink in the island. Place a full height pantry on the existing sink wall changing sink to a small singular sink. Then bench space for all small appliances. The kitchen triangle is now accessible but not in a thoroughfare. If people are going to the laundry they will NOT walk through the “triangle” of fridge sink and cooktop/oven.

So, mum loves the sink under the window, so putting it in the island is out of the question. Personally, I think the kitchen/laundry door should be only a door into the pantry, not the whole way through. And the way in should be via the lounge room.

The small appliances cupboard is definately a problem where it is. They really need proper corner cabinetry for that section to the right of the sink

Mmmm, entry into a laundry via a lounge room….interesting. If an informal lounge room, I suppose that would be fine. And yes, if you delete the thoroughfare through kitchen to outside, then that would improve the situation.

And sorry, looking at the photos only, I didn’t realise there was a window above sink.

Where are people going. Fridge pantry laundry outside?

Move things to entry of kitchen like fridge that are being accessed by others and yes s 2nd entry to laundry and pantry should help. A small prep sink in longer island may assist

what is the length and width of the existing kitchen and is the rear living room and laundry original to the house or an extension?

Personally, I would enclose the lounge room so that it is more private and open up the living room wall. Redesign the kitchen so that the wall of cabinets is on the lounge room wall and have a long island bench on the living room side. You could even make the laundry to include a butlers pantry.

I agree with the above, as the renovations have been ongoing for 7yrs we have no idea as to what has been done

Looks like living is an addition and there was a door to laundry that was blocked off. The island is short as it appears there is a table at the end of room. Fridge seems to be in wrong position in middle of work zone. Rearranging things that are used for setting table getting drinks and snacks etc may help better zone the space

Where is oven and dishwasher? I can see a handtowel hanging on appliance next to sink. And what is under the microwave?

Looking at the plan posted and the photos, the plan of removing walls and closing up windows and doors as already been completed. So to then reinstate the wall between front lounge and kitchen may be a push. But it definitely a better idea. The floor runner rug, I think, is covering up the wall removal, where there is probably no flooring. The larger dining suite is in the “lounge” room on the plans. We don’t know where the views are or where the sun comes up, the current layout without the wall may be the best for orientation and lighting.

So hard to make suggestions without knowing what's been done and what hasn't....my overall comment is that it's an odd setup and ideally the kitchen is lined up with the orientation of the laundry with island facing what is shown as "meals" but practically means using some of the lounge room...hard to know without understanding of views or external aspect etc as another way to look at it would be make the lounge and current meals the living/kitchen / dining and the living room at the back the private lounge...then you would have a long run of back wall for the kitchen, and room flow that makes more sense but quite likely this may not align with the owner's living preferences etc...super rough markup:
