'Greige' engineered boards would create a subtle base, complementing the colour of the units and the walls, while adding a touch of warmth too. Hi, We are finally renovating our kitchen and would like some advice about installing 2 different types of kitchen worktops: granite and wood. We have a smallish J-shaped kitchen and with a separate laundry room which houses the fridge/freezer and washing machine. The style is classical/country cabinet doors in cream/mushroom colour and neutral walls. We have Moroccan style tiles which we installed when we first moved in to brighten up the kitchen, and we would like to retain these (picture included). For cost efficiency, we are considering brown or cream (can’t decide colour!) granite worktops across where the hob and sink will be situated and a dark wood across the 3rd worktop (sample plan attached). Most of the pictures of mix and match countertops on houzz/Pinterest etc seem to involve an island Or breakfast bar, neither of which we have enough space for. Thus would like your feedback on: Will differing worktops work or do they appear too disjointed in a smaller kitchen Advice on granite/quartz worktop colours that will work with the floor tiles. also any advice re: colour scheme for walls/splashback/cabinetry hardware/tiles would be appreciated. most of my kitchen toys ie food processor/kettle/toasrer are grey/black, and the hob/oven/microwave are likely to be grey/black so doesn’t really match with a traditional/country style kitchen! It’s very shiny isn’t it? You could try porcelain tiles which come in all sorts of styles, for example wood effect, stone effect or patterned. As your kitchen has a classic farmhouse look I think limestone effect porcelain would look amazing. It’s a really tough tile that is easy to maintain - just hoover then mop. Suitable with UFH too. Love your kitchen, you’ve done a great job, not only does the kitchen look good, it’s totally practical, drawers are the way forward, even if they are more expensive than cupboards. I’ve just redone a kitchen in a house we rent out, the old one was finally falling apart. I was going to go to Howdens and use the joiner etc we knew, but in the end we used a small local company, which cost us £300 more, but the quality of their interior cabinets and doors was so outstanding, plus they could do everything, including tiling, we went with them. We didn’t change the floor, but did everything necessary, I’m hoping it lasts well and our tenants look after it!
