Flooring Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kitchen flooring for light coloured units and black worktop

Hi

We have a dark slate tiled floor in our kitchen / diner and HATE it! We'd like to change the flooring but don't have the budget also to change the units and worktops.

I have been looking at some of the visualiser apps on flooring websites but am really struggling to find anything that looks "right" with this furniture combination.

It needs to be practical and hardwearing, and be compatible with electric underfloor heating. Any advice please...?

you can freshen the kitchen by changing the door handles with a new more contemporary handle and a new tile. try original style for traditional tiles with a modern edge. I have a photo from the site to highlight some of their offerings.

It’s very shiny isn’t it? You could try porcelain tiles which come in all sorts of styles, for example wood effect, stone effect or patterned. As your kitchen has a classic farmhouse look I think limestone effect porcelain would look amazing. It’s a really tough tile that is easy to maintain - just hoover then mop. Suitable with UFH too. Here’s some ideas, all porcelain.

I am choosing a black kitchen and found the discussion very useful. As this discussion is 3 years old I am assuming you have been using your black kitchen for a couple of years now. Please can you let me know how you are finding it? I have been told by many people that black shows stains and scratches easily, so can be very hard to maintain. Hi, your kitchen looks beautiful! came across threads as we too are currently debating diy kitchens cashmere or light grey, we have ordered cashmere and started to have doubts that it would be too dark. Though looking at yours I'm reassured again! I just wondered what wood worktop/and poss stain you have chosen? We looked at a solid wood oak but i thought it looked a bit yellowy. You should really see cabinet colour and countertop colours together in the space where the kitchen is going, if possible, to see whether it works or not. And keep the door sample vertical and the countertop sample horizontal, since that is how you will see it. You wouldn’t believe how much the difference in light in the showroom and in your home will affect the colours. You could go for the veined marble(look) on the island and a different countertop on the other cabinets if it doesn’t work with the colour of those.

I think there's touch a contrast between floor and units. If you are planning a new kitchen at some point in future I definitely wouldn't do the floor now as it might not work with the new kitchen, I'd just wait til then.

I think paint units sage green would make it look much better

Hey, if you hate the floor, then definitely change the floor! I too think ceramic tiles and they are great with ufh. I would go lighter on the flooring, but I would also be tempted to paint the kitchen cupboards and go darker- maybe a dark green and add brass handles? You could have a very fancy kitchen for not much money, I reckon. X

When I moved into a house with a floor I just hated I bought inexpensive stick on floor tiles from B&Q and they covered it until I’d saved to do it properly. Might be worth doing that if you really hate the floor - other alternative might be floor paint ? But try it somewhere under the plinth line first !
