Remember that blue door in the movie Notting Hill? Sometimes the colour of your front door really can give your home personality or even improve your property's kerb appeal.
Are you a traditional wooden door kind of person or do you prefer to spice things up with a touch of colour? Do you think some colours should be avoided or should they be celebrated? Photos are encouraged!

10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoI have a white front door that I can't change at the moment so I decided to go with it and create a cottage feel. This pic is my inspiration! I might hang a pretty curtain over the glass panel, what do you think?

Comments (22)Would suggest widening the path, and keep it straight BUT halfway along widen it to create an area .say 8'x8' and put large pots planted with shrubs in around the sides, so the eye is diverted from the straight line, but you can still walk the shortest route. Comments (8)Thanks for all comments. I like PWJ architects idea, but think our space would not do that door justice. I love the bi-fold acoustic fabric panel and will investigate that further. I do want to replace the door with something as an add on porch, no matter how well insulated, will always allow a cold or hot bank of air coming into the hall....See MoreWill a red garage door look like a fire station?
Comments (5)Hi Rose Do you have any photos you can share? It always helps to be able to see what we're advising on! I think it probably depends on the type of garage door - ie. if its the type with small windows in then yes it probably will look like a fire station but otherwise I think it would be ok. You could always get the garage door in a different colour though - they don't always have to match....See MoreEmmeline Westin

10 years agoFront doors can look good in bright colours but garage doors I'm not so sure, it's a big expanse. Deep blue's or red's can look good but steer clear of purple, orange, yellow etc. Here's a burgundy one with a cream frame we did not so long ago

10 years agoThis is a photo of the front of my house. Excuse the photo, Google earth never comes by when the flowers are blooming and the grass green.
I have an bricked in court yard and my front door faces the side of the garage.

10 years agoThe front door is the first thing people see and is a great opportunity to give the home some personality.
This bright yellow door seen here adds a pop of color to this Calgary home without being overpowering.

10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoWe painted ours purple. I had to check if the colour was 'approved', as we live in a conservation area and have to follow quite a few rules. Apparently Victorians loved purple, so no problems with that!
