Our clients, Sophie & Mark live in an 8-bedroom Grade II listed 17th Century country house with their 3 children and 6 dogs. Sophie studied interior design in Chelsea, as well as fashion, and the interior of their home illustrates this so well as it has been beautifully decorated and furnished to suit their eclectic tastes. This is reflected by the inclusion of decorative ornaments and interesting artefacts displayed around their home.

They had created a new glazed link between two parts of their home and wanted to relocate the kitchen within this space so that it became part of their existing dining area. They also invited us to consider the design for a bespoke wine display situated in the adjoining dining space. The brief was to create a warm, welcoming space for family and friends that was functional, in a classic style, to suit their period home. The kitchen needed to work as a cook’s kitchen and be able to turn into a fabulous entertaining space; the island needed to be spacious, acting as both a sociable prep space and informal eating area. They had a clear idea of what they wanted, and I worked very closely with them at the concept stage to achieve the desired design. It was important to me that the design reflected the style of the house as well as the modern glazed extension. The final design created a successful fusion between old and new, creating a fluid link through to the rest of their home.

The in-frame shaker style cabinetry was painted in Farrow & Ball Railings with a marbled effect quartz worktop, featuring a classic off-white base with dark grey veining which picked out the cabinet colour perfectly. The antique brass touches with the handles and taps and antique bronze splash backs introduced a warmth to the overall design and with the addition of a rich walnut finish in the cabinets, breakfast bar and accessories, it all created a luxurious aesthetic which successfully combines a classic and contemporary style.
