Library & Games room at the Barn

I was invited to design this bold project where my client had carved herself a library and games room out of their converted stables. With the joinery already planned and sofas on order, she was then at a loss on what to do next and how to bring her intentions to life.

As a self-confessed bookworm, my client was keen to create a personal retreat and TV-free zone, in which to spend hours reading, to play games with the family and to entertain friends in the summer.

Additionally, everything had to be basset hound-proof (all materials were tested with both dogs slobbering over them!) and practical, as well as beautiful.

From the layout to the decor, from furniture selection to styling and sourcing soft furnishings, I designed this space to inject her vivacious personality throughout, resulting in what she calls her 'Library of Dreams'.

Let the games begin: this round table with comfy chairs perfectly zones the games area and is used for hours of board games and the occasional business meeting.

With the client wanting not only beautiful selections, but a dog-proof design, every material was tested on the her two gorgeous bassett hounds, proving design can be both practical and beautiful.

Guest corner: with no corner left unturned, every part of this room was designed to be intriguing, brave and colourful, whilst also practical too. Plenty of spaces to put one's cocktail down, for example!

Soft furnishings: an opportunity to continue to bold design concept, soft furnishings not only bring colour and pattern, but they make a space feel inviting and cosy

Cocktail corner: intended to host guests, this library also doubles a drinks area for cosy nights in with family and friends

Details: laquered finishes, offset against wooden details -from the largest pieces of furniture, to the smallest accessories, every element has been considered and planned.

Drinks cabinet: this sideboard adds a little natural texture into the bold space, grounding the design and of course, adding more storage for drinks and glasses.
