New Country House
Set in an historic Grade II* listed landscape, the design for this new house is classically inspired whilst the plan form and spatial relationships are contemporary.
The site was contentious, having previously been developed as a result of an application that was taken to appeal at the House of Lords on a legal technicality. As a result, considerable negotiation was required with English Heritage, The Garden History Society and the local Planning Authority in respect of the replacement house.
Traditional materials on the exterior complement the historic nature of the landscape setting and the extensive use of glass, natural stone and limed oak give the interior a contemporary feel.
Short-listed for The Manser
Medal 2002
Natural Stone Awards 2002
