From Concept to Completion

This project demonstrates the transformation that can be achieved when thoughtful landscape design is combined with skilled craftsmanship.

Working with a challenging sloping site, the brief was to create a beautiful and functional garden that could be enjoyed throughout the year while making the most of the property's elevated position and far-reaching views across the surrounding countryside.

The design introduces structure, balance and flow across multiple levels. Strong architectural lines, generous terraces and carefully positioned planting create a series of interconnected outdoor spaces that feel both purposeful and inviting. Retaining structures and level changes were integrated into the design to work with the natural topography rather than against it.

Working closely with our construction team over a four-month build, the site was transformed from a steep and difficult landscape into a collection of elegant outdoor rooms linked by bespoke timber retaining walls, wide staircases and integrated seating areas. The project also included a single-storey extension at the base of the garden, housing an additional downstairs toilet plumbed and fitted by our building team, alongside a new patio area.

The central lawn provides a calm visual anchor, while layered planting introduces texture, colour and seasonal interest throughout the year.

As daylight fades, the garden takes on an entirely different character. Carefully considered lighting highlights key features, planting and circulation routes, adding warmth, atmosphere and extending the use of the garden well into the evening.

What began as a challenging, excavated site is now a refined and welcoming landscape that complements the architecture of the house and provides a strong connection between the property and its setting. The result is a garden that balances structure and softness, creating a space that is both practical and beautiful in every season.
