Winter Gardens Way, Banbury

A new build property on a development to the North of Banbury called Hanwell Fields. This garden is south facing and the primary objective was to create as much interest as possible.
The garden is divided into three distinctive spaces (rooms). First Space is the main patio to the rear of the property for a garden table and chairs for entertaining. A large paved space to take a large garden table and chairs + bbq space and additional seating if required.
The next level down is a level lawn which runs left to right across the garden and in front of the conservatory. In front of the conservatory, a pool with a pot on its side create movement and the sound of running water. The pool is planted with Water iris and Equisetum and in the summer months floating water lettuce keeps the water crystal clear.
A set of steps then descend down to the lower lawn in a circular shape edged with deeply planted borders to include old English Roses and herbaceous perennials. An Octagonal cedar greenhouse sits in the left corner for growing of bedding plants in the spring and tomatoes and Cucumbers for the summer months. A selection of deciduous trees is planted along the rear boundary to include Silver Birch, Japanese Cherry and Flowering Almond. The trees cast a degree of shade in summer months should an area for cooler garden enjoyment be desired.
A timber screen divides the Top lawn and bottom lawn to create the room effect. On this screen is planted espalier Pear and Apple trees for September fruit. On the brick garage wall there is a lovely climbing roses which starts flowering bright Orange and then fades to salmon pinks. Fragrance is fantastic. The variety is called Rosa London Bridge. other plants on the garage wall include Jasminum Nudiflorum (winter flowering jasmine) and Lonicera Fragrantisssima (Shrubby honeysuckle with distinctive fragrant flowers in late spring.
The garden enjoys a good degree of privacy and is not overlooked and also provide a good variety of visiting birds through the seasons as well as butterflies and bumblebees making great trips to the Lavender hedging. One of the most enjoyable gardens to build between designing and building gardens for other clients. Yes, this is the garden of Alexander John Garden Design & Maintenance
