Many people (some I know personally) find skylights in the bedroom noisy -- a big difficulty in loft conversions. There are sites online with ingenious suggestions for muffling rain (and plane and seagull ...) skylight noise, so it is not an uncommon problem!

I think the article covered some good points but it would have been useful to touch on how light affect colours and depending on which direction your room faces as to what colour would be best. Maybe not for everyone in a bedroom but a "glossy" wood floor will bounce light as will any metallic, glossy surface for accessories, furniture, metallic wallpaper etc. It would also be useful to expand on how to actually hang window treatments to maximise the light. Layered artificial light is also key if a room has little light. If an adjoining room has lots of light then you may be able to install a transom window over the door or put a frosted pane in the door. I'd also avoid large pieces of dark furniture with a Matt surface. It also helps to make sure light fittings and windows clean, as dirty windows do block a lot of light as do trees etc! (My Windows get cleaned regularly but as we're on a busy road they get filthy within days and when they're cleaned it's like the light has been turned on!). Dulux also do a light and space paint which I think is meant to reflect twice as much light into the room. Or I agree, embrace the dark!

Very nice bedrooms, but I think he prefers darker colors.
