I'm moving soon to a flat with a long, narrow and dark hallway and this article has convinced me that yellow is definitely not the answer! Like Emma I'm going to embrace the dark.

I've done the same in two rooms - embraced the dark that is. Lots of mirrors, dark tones and dark wood. It creates a great atmosphere. But this hallway just doesn't work. As the main reception to the house, it feels gloomy - not homely, or welcoming. I'll keep looking. Good luck to you all.

I do like 'the divert attention from bulky storage' idea and the 'saturate your space' look, but am not keen on the acid yellows & the lemony yellows here. Prefer warm shades....

When I got my (windowless + solid door) hall done, I read that one's instinct to go white was not the answer but rather go for a dark shade... So I went for a warm welcome in 'pumkin'... which could be classed as a dark version of yellow!
