Idea of the Week: Don't Forget the Ceiling
Give the Fifth Wall Its Due With a Special Wallpaper or Finish
It's so easy to slap up a coat of white paint and call it a day, but where's the imagination in that? Instead of treating the ceiling as an afterthought, we love how more and more designers are letting their creativity run sky-high by addressing what's often referred to as "the fifth wall" with wallpaper, paint or other finishes to truly complete the design of a room.
At San Francisco's Decorator Showcase, designers Stephen Rice and Lynn DeTienne continued their room's coastal blue-gray style onto the ceiling, with an inset covered in a wallpaper of ominous, undulating clouds.
Ciel Wallpaper
Look closely and you'll see that the wallpaper — Ciel by Trove — also includes lines of script which write out, "there's no place like home" over and over again. A detail on your ceiling detail? Well, that's even better.
