When the brief for this sample flat came to Ronak Patel and Shailesh Patel, cofounders and principal architects of STUDIO 926, what stood out most was the ask for a universal aesthetic that would resonate with a spectrum of prospective homeowners. The duo decided to employ a contemporary, minimalist design language rooted in a raw and earthy colour palette, strong clean lines and a uncluttered spatial layout.
“The project was to design the interior of a model house, essentially designed for a family of four,” says Ronak.
“The interior projects a neutral style, with all the elements – from the furniture design to the colour scheme to the accessories – open to stylistic interpretation. What we are left with is an inviting and relaxing ambience,” notes Shailesh.

The foyer connects directly into the living room, which sports a linear layout. The warm and cool colours in the room interact to provide a serene balance.

A panelled grey accent wall with embossed detailing backgrounds the seating area, while the television wall opposite wears a deep-toned wooden finish.

Pearl-grey upholstered sofas, accompanied by a wooden armchair, constitute the seating layout. Taking centre stage, a circular coffee table echoes the natural grain of the wood-finish wall.

The living area, dining area and kitchen share a free-flowing, open-plan layout. Situated to the right of the foyer, adjacent to the living room, is the dining room, which showcases an earthy colour palette, dominated by taupe walls, a dark wooden dining table and complementary wooden wall panelling.
A sculptural depiction of golden leaves takes pride of place on the wall, enlivening the muted backdrop.
“The choice of separate palettes creates a clear distinction between the living and dining areas. The walls and furniture pieces of the living area are cloaked in classic grey, while earthy brown dominates the dining section,” Shailesh says.

The kitchen channels a sheeny, monochrome look, with glossy black cabinets and a white subway-tile backsplash.
“The grey walls and marble countertop create the illusion of a larger space while the overhead cabinets offer well-organised storage,” Ronak says.

The master bedroom is characterised by muted tones. A carved wooden headboard foregrounds a plain vanilla wall.
Grey panellingcovers the wall opposite, juxtaposed with a low wooden console before it. Beside the console a trio of brass leaf sculptures lends the room a stylistic flourish.

Assorted timber tones define the guest bedroom. A low headboard behind the bed extends just enough to zone the nightstands on either side. Sliding wood-finish wardrobes highlight the adjacent wall.
The wall opposite the bed also features wooden panelling in a richer wood tone. The room has an ensuite balcony that plays host to plenty of natural light and pleasing outdoor vistas.
The kids’ bedroom is a medley of turquoise and timber tones. Both the wall behind the headboard and the wall opposite it are enhanced by a blue stucco finish. To the left of the bed is a wood-finish sliding wardrobe that transforms leftward into a compact study table.

“Significant attention has been given to the children’s bedroom. The handleless wardrobe with the full-length mirror is an exercise in making the space appear larger than it is,” says Shailesh.

“The jali on the entrance filters sunlight directly onto the Ganesha idol in an almost allegorical way. The sunlit patterns cast by the emerging light break the monotony of the furniture scheme and uplift the mood,” says Ronak.
