What Houzz contributors are saying:
Give yourself time to deliverThis is one of the classic pitfalls, so take note. When pulling your design ideas together and deciding on which products and materials to use, make a note of the lead times. Many pieces of furniture are made to order and can have lead times of up to 12 weeks, sometimes longer. Similarly, tiles and natural stone can take much longer than expected to arrive and products from abroad can encounter hold-ups during transit. This chandelier was custom-made for the project and looks fantastic. This is no last minute, off-the-shelf, next day delivery job. It can be a huge shame if you’ve spent hours, days, weeks choosing the perfect product, but when you come to order it, you find it will take too long to be delivered, perhaps time you can’t afford. Then you have to decide whether to hold up the work or pick something else based on the fact it can be delivered quickly.
Sparkle with a chandelierA wow chandelier never dates. Whether you go vintage or modern, it’s a great way to cheer up a space, and add elegance and evening glamour to a room. The multiple light sources in this orb-like bespoke number add fantastical style and sparkle, so dinner always feels like an occasion.
QualityThe first thing to understand about LED lighting is that there is a significant difference between good-quality and poor-quality fittings and lamps (a lamp is the technical word for a bulb). It’s one of those markets where there really is no short-cut or cheap solution. If you’re not paying a lot for a bulb or fixture, there’s probably a reason. The quality of LED lights can vary hugely in terms of output, efficiency, the colour of the light and the way the light makes other colours look, so it’s important to do your homework. A low-quality LED light can look yellow, dingy or overly cold. You need to buy from a reputable source, understand what you’re buying, and be prepared to pay significantly more than you would have done for halogen/tungsten sources. In the long run, buying top quality now will save you money, and give you years of enjoyment.See 10 ways to dazzle with cluster lights
Mix linear and circularThis contemporary kitchen features a strong linear wash along the top of the units. It balances the natural daylight coming in from the other side of the room, and provides a strong sightline at night. The high ceiling in this space is perfect for this sort of linear application, as there is sufficient height for the wash to diffuse across the space. It contrasts beautifully with the spherical pendant lighting in the dining area – the strong architectural lines are softened by the delicate cascading chandelier.Browse more pendant lighting
