We cannot take credit for the expansive 40-year old oak that shades the driveway and wraps the home in privacy. The owners credit the squirrels! Established tree canopy like this is literally priceless - it adds value to the Retreat, and also neighboring homes.

The living wall/vertical garden is filling in beautifully 2 months after the installation, providing a dramatic focal point for this mid-century model landscape renovation. The updates include a new concrete driveway, a welcoming concrete pathway accented by shiny black pebbles along with a variety of grasses, lavender, yarrow, succulents and CA native plants. The large living wall was the perfect solution to bring life to the home's large front wall just next to the entrance. A variety of succulents, grass-like plants, cascading Oxalis and Lamium, were planted in long waves in the wall offering a beautiful tapestry of flowing textures and colors.

This garden space emphasizes plant textures, colorful foliage and quirky decorative elements. The heart of the garden is the elevated deck that perches over a rain garden, where stormwater from the roof is allowed to collect during the rainy months. Curvilinear paver pathways were installed to gently contrast against the soft plant textures. A sturdy structure was built to protect firewood and showcase quirky travel souvenirs.

The rear grounds are equally impressive with a lattice courtyard lawn, serpentine isle of boxwood with custom wood obelisks, metal garden sculpture and a Celtic knot garden. This property also has cutting, fragrance and rose gardens that bloom though out the seasons, and a fire-pit area for entertaining on those cool New England nights. A grand driveway lined with manicured Linden trees and rows of fragrant lavender lead you to the doorstep of this stunning stone home. Pea-stone aggregates are used as the driveway surface with bordered by natural stone curbing with a strip of natural stone down the middle for drainage. Fun fact: These Linden trees also known as Lyme tree were the types of trees used in the Lord of the Rings film. They were the Hobbits home of choice!
