rian Travers Biography Brian Travers went to Moseley Road school of Art in 1971 , where he met the future members of UB40. Formed UB40 in 1978, their first gig in 1978 at the Hare & Hounds, Kings Heath. Chrissie Hynde saw one of they're early performances and asked them to support the Pretenders on their UK tour. Their first album “ Signing Off “ had the iconic front cover of an Unemployment Benefit Card which sold over 140 million records worldwide and have achieved 50 UK singles in the Top 40. In 1983 they achieved Worldwide acclaim with the release of Labour of Love and their first US no 1 single with Red Red Wine. They have been nominated for four Grammy awards. Brian is the founder member and plays Saxophone, Keyboards and a major songwriter, composer , Brass & String arranger. He has also directed UB40,s videos and directed and performed with other artists and currently plays in six bands when time allows. He is a proud “ Brummie " and a great ambassador for the City. He has a degree prize named after him, dedicated by The BCU , Birmingham City University for students who have achieved progressively high standards, and demonstrated marked improvement, he personally attends the award ceremony. He is a versatile painter who is now starting to create a ‘ stir ' in the art world, even though he still tours for at least six months in every year.
