Acorn Builders

Jake and his team have finally just ‘finished’ a simple kitchen extension in our house. It started 8 months ago and he asked for all the money upfront which unfortunately we agreed to and we’ve had nothing but problems. Jake sent inexperienced or young people to do the work and although they were very nice they didn’t have the skills needed, Jake himself is probably a good builder but as he didn’t actually do ANY of the work, we can’t comment on this! . We were left with unfinished drains, bricks that don’t match, leaking windows, A floor that dips in the middle and walls that aren’t straight. We requested and paid for a lantern roof from a local showroom which he bought off eBay and assembled on site.. badly! Everything is done on the cheap and then you are suddenly presented with extra costs! The people he employs are untidy leaving food wrappers and drink bottles everywhere and they had no respect for our garden or the rest of our house. I am still scrubbing concrete off my floor tiles and trying to unblock sinks that they poured plaster down! We went with Acorn builders as they are local to us and we believe in keeping business local but choosing Acorn was a big mistake. even the building inspector in Bradford has commented at the poor quality of build! now we are faced with having to get a professional to come and finish off the bits that Acorn have left or do the jobs properly! having read previous bad reviews about Jake and Acorn he often comments that they are fake reviews and calls them libellous. I can guarantee you that it is not a fake review this is totally genuine and The fact that jake refused to communicate with me directly in the final few months and had to go through my husband is testament to the fact that he knows all the above is true. The best bit of advice that I can give you about Acorn builders is to AVOID them. The pictures below are the mess that remains outside of our house even though they have finished. as you can see our lawn is now mostly concrete. and the plastering is a very poor finish.

Using FENSA, NICEIC (on their wall of shame!) and Federation of Master Builders logos without being a member of these bodies. No advice re council building regs. Just found out now that we need to make major changes to get the alterations passed. Wish we'd never used them.

This guy is a fraud. He claimed to have all sorts of credentials and links to The Federation of Master builders, NICEIC, nhbc and The Guild of Master Craftsmen but in reality he has none of these. In fact, NICEIC have listed him on their "Wall of Shame" for using their logo when he is not a member (http://www.niceic.com/find-a-contractor/wall-of-shame). He tries to get you to pay him in cash and then when you complain if something is not right he simply leaves the site and does not complete the job. I have reported him to Trading Standards and am awaiting the outcome. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
