My extraordinary Hartley Botanic custom glasshouse has been a source of great pride - and fun - for many years. It is beautiful in design, extremely well constructed, provides a wonderful home for my orchids and other plants and enhances my property in every way. Every detail has been accounted for by Hartley and the company stands ready to respond to questions promptly and thoughtfully. While the glasshouse was completed over 10 years ago it looks like it was built yesterday! I look forward to many more years of enjoyment with my Hartley.

Everyone I worked with at Hartley Botanic was helpful, accommodating, and knowledgeable. A Hartley Botanic greenhouse can be a major investment — it was for me! — and they made the process easy and pleasant. As for the greenhouse itself — it is everything I dreamed it would be and more. It’s beautiful and so solidly engineered and constructed.

Extremely pleased with my Hartley Victorian Villa. Top notch quality all the way around! Dan Barry, the head of sales, was very informative, always responsive to questions in a very timely fashion, and a great help to me in deciding exactly which model and options were right for my needs. Can not give him enough accolades for his work from start to finish. The crew that came to assemble the greenhouse was also awesome! They all worked their tails off in some harsh weather, were very professional and did an outstanding job. In summary, Hartley did exactly what they told me they would do and in the promised timeline. This is truly a first class company and a top of the line product that is worth the cost. I could not be more satisfied with my purchase.

I had the most amazing experience with Hartley Botanic. It started and ended with Dan Barry who could not have been more professional and helpful every step of the way. I am so very pleased with the outcome of this project - Dan and his entire team exceeded all of my expectations. The office staff of Shelley and crew is prompt, courteous and detail oriented. The installers of Russell and Steve were fantastic, quick, knowledgable and very helpful. The greenhouse is beautiful and sturdy and worth every dime. Everyone who sees it is blown away. Dan is still helpful to this day with any questions I have. It's an amazing product that is handled by a top shelf team of professionals. Highly recommend Dan Barry and his team and Hartley to anyone considering a greenhouse - there is no better option!

Spectacular company. I was very nervous about this project. I had a complicated greenhouse project in the works and had recent poor experiences with contractors. However, the Hartley crew was professional and timely. They managed all small concerns and large concerns with equal polite and professional answers. My greenhouse is against a barn with a very finely wrought base, Hartley sent a crew member to view the site and their crew worked wonderfully with mine during the design and pre-build phase. At one point the plans were hand delivered to me. The Hartley office staff was prompt and thorough with their answers to our design considerations. This is a great product and I had an excellent experience. I ordered in July 2014 and it was installed by mid September. FAST!

We oversaw a project in Delaware for a very private individual. Their team did everything that they said they would in a timely manner. First, the salesman came to visit our location, something that we really needed as we had a number of people to coordinate. This was the first step and then we were given a list of individuals near us who had purchased a Hartley Botanic greenhouse. Visiting those properties helped us understand the high quality of their greenhouses. We visited at least two of the installed Hartley greenhouses and made a good friend of one of the owners. We wanted the greenhouse installed before a specific date and even with a slow down on our end, their team of installers worked diligently the week of Thanksgiving to get our project completed. We have called upon the office staff for advice since the Hartley greenhouse was installed. They are always responsive. We feel sure that if we needed help or had a broken glass panel, Hartley would be there for us. This is a high end product and not one for every situation. You get what you pay for and Hartley delivers more than I expected.
My experience says that this is a working partnership that you are forming with Hartley Botanic. Like all working partnerships, everyone must communicate well and I found that the office staff at Hartley Botanic was very good at anticipating problems and eliminating those potential hiccups. We have supplied Hartley with a few photos and will continue to be in touch with this fine, high end company.

Hartley's team just completed the installation of a lean to greenhouse on our farmhouse here in New Hampshire. The house is a federal style brick home built in the 1790s and the greenhouse couldn't be a nicer addition.
The team arrived on Friday and worked throughout the weekend to get the job done. From Dan Berry in Sales, Shelley and Beth in Design & Construction to Jamie and Russell, the on site construction team, the people at Hartley are wonderful and the overall experience was terrific. Hartley Botanic is professional and thorough which is key to making an additional like ours a success. We couldn't be happier with the greenhouse and their work.
Thanks everyone at Hartley for a job well done! Lucius Fowler.

I am a principle in an architectural design and renovation firm based in Vermont. We’ve done high-end projects on the West Coast and New England for over thirty years. One of the most recent, on a large restored farm in Vermont, required a modest-in-size bespoke greenhouse to be attached to a new barn, and we chose Hartlety Botanic to design and build it at the substantial cost of over $53,000.
While ultimately producing a superior greenhouse, Hartley Bontanic currently suffers, to our enormous frustration, serious quality control problems in the UK, problems which are exacerbated by a remarkable lack of understanding of the company’s product by their client-contact person in its Woburn, Massachusetts’s office.
Serious issues arose when Hartley manufactured our project’s custom greenhouse with, unbeknownst to us, incorrect handles on the vented windows. This inexplicable design error prevented the units from closing tightly. It rained the day after installation, and water poured into the structure from the leaky vents, as well as from open mitre joints on the outside of the greenhouse. Hartley had also failed to instruct its installer to caulk between their base rail and the sill we proved per their explicit specs. As a result, rain also infiltrated the building under the length of the base rail. It was a disastrous situation because we knew that in winter frigid air would find its way in through those same routes, rendering the greenhouse useless.
Hartley had, additionally, failed to provide its installer with all the needed downspout pieces and the caps to cover large, exposed bolting inside the greenhouse. A small oversight, but, alas, part of a larger pattern.
We immediately contacted Hartley US and informed them that we were withholding the small completion balance of $2844 due on this $53,449 greenhouse until the building was rendered water-tight. We at once provided Hartley with multiple photos of the leaks. They were baffled. No one at Hartley UK or Hartley US, looking at closeups of the water infiltration which showed the handles quite clearly, initially realized that the hardware was incorrect. Instead, the firm set about devising improvised remedial fixes and sent a technician to install rubber washers between the vent frames and the handles to increase closing pressure. An utter failure: the vents still closed poorly and leaked, and after-the-fact caulking stopped none of the base-rail or open-mitre leaks.
For the next seven excruciating weeks, I repeatedly had to neglect other pressing business responsibilities and spend 32 hours photographing the continuing leaks and writing 45 emails to Hartley’s Woburn, Massachusetts office, and reading 46 replies from Hartley’s stubborn representative there, until, finally, in desperation, I contacted Hartley UK directly to resolve the problems.
The whole of my efforts, Hartley was informed, could be conservatively valued at $2400, based upon a discounted per-hour design fee we were willing to extend them. During all those weeks, we also found it necessary to pay our project’s Clerk of the Works over $600 in hourly fees to meet repeatedly with us on site to discuss possible solutions to the continuing leakage when Hartley’s first attempted remedies failed.
A month into this exchange both of correspondence and photographs of fresh leaks, someone at Hartley UK finally realized that they’d installed the wrong handles at their production facility. Hartley US abruptly informed us that new handles and vents would be fabricated in England and installed as soon as possible. In order to have some input on the exact redesign of these new “bespoke” units, it was then that I was forced to go around the Woburn office, find a way to contact someone at Hartley UK, and set in motion a reasonable collaboration between us and Hartley. This resulted in a relatively leak-free greenhouse.
Hartley then expected full payment of the small balance due. I objected, saying that since we had occurred additional costs of over $3000 and the balance due was $2844, we should just call things even. No. Not to be. Hartley finally agreed to shrink the balance due by half, demonstrating ill-advised business judgment and insisting that a client they had seriously inconvenienced remit a check to them for $1422. They cited, in their defense, that they had suffered additional FedEx charges when they shipped the new, correct vent units to Massachusetts.
This review is an admittedly lengthy cautionary tale, but it is also a lament. We had expected far more from Hartley at every turn. When quality, integrity, and standing behind one’s product begin to matter far less than profit to a highly regarded firm, we are usually witnessing the beginnings of an irreversible slide from greatness.

Dan Barry of Hartley Botanic earned a 5 star rating from me (which I never do) for his work with me on our greenhouse project. Dan was always available for questions from my first inquiry & throughout the entire process. His knowledge helped to explain the overall timing & steps involved from ordering to the completion by the Hartley team. He was able to thoroughly answer any questions, such as the proper heat needed for the winter, & add information that was practical & complete. He had knowledge of the overall market & could explain differences with great attention to detail & was always giving helpful ideas for my specific situation.
