Vision Mill Architects Limited

Nick Mills RIBA RIAS PPIAZ BSc Hons Architecture (Strathclyde) BArch (Strathclyde) Born in Kitwe, Zambia on 6th December 1961, and educated at St George’s College in Harare, Zimbabwe, it had always been Nicholas’ ambition to read architecture. In 1980 he commenced his studies at the University of Natal in Durban, completing his academic qualifications in 1989 at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. On attaining his professional qualifications in 1992, Nicholas established an architectural practice in Harare, Zimbabwe, calling it Conryn Design Architects. By 1995, it had grown into a medium-sized practice employing over 25 people and was undertaking a variety of different projects. However, as a direct result of the political instability and economic deterioration in the country, Nicholas decided to close his practice and relocate to the United Kingdom. After working for a practice in Gloucester for four years, he joined David Free in 2004 to create Vision Mill Architects Limited. Nicholas has always taken a keen interest in all matters relating to the architectural profession, and in 1995 he was elected to the board of the Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe, eventually being elected as its president in 1999. Amongst his other professional achievements are: Council[or of the Architects Council of Zimbabwe (1994-1996); Board Member of the Harare Inner City Partnership (1997-2000); Sub-Committee Chairman of the Urban Taskforce, Harare Inner City Partnership (1997-2000); Board Member of the National Housing Taskforce (1998-2000); Sub-Committee Chairman of the Research and Environment Sub-Committee, National Housing Taskforce (1998-2000); Councillor of the Zimbabwe Construction Industry Council (1999-2000); Committee Member of the National Joint Practice Committee (1999-2000) and Coucil Member of the RIBA (2015).
