Kimberly Scimeca is a third-generation drapery and home furnishings specialist. She uses her lifetime of experience and extensive knowledge gained growing up in the industry to serve residential and commercial clients through Window Elevations, her full service design firm located in Wake Forest, North Carolina. One of her early childhood memories is watching her father work in the custom drapery and upholstery shop founded in 1975 by her grandfather. One day her dad gave Kimberly an old wooden crate, several fabric scraps, some tacks and a small tack hammer. She spent hours covering the crate, pulling the fabric off and starting over again. Thus began her love of the profession she would pursue as a career. She started working in her family’s New York shop Kingsway Upholstery as a teenager. After high school, she earned an associate degree of fine arts in interior design from Suffolk Community College and a bachelor of fine arts degree in interior design from the New York Institute of Technology. Kimberly established her career working under a variety of New York decorators and a number of well-known companies including Ethan Allen, Lowe's and Calico Corners. One of her greatest accomplishments is the lobby she decorated for CitiCorp in Manhattan. After moving to North Carolina with her family in 2007, she founded Window Elevations where she enjoys bringing her clients’ vision for their rooms to life through not only window treatments, but also paint, accessories and furniture. She accomplishes this by listening to her clients and taking into account budget constraints as well as items already owned that can be incorporated into the design. Kimberly never pushes her personal tastes on clients; rather she tailors each client’s design plan specifically to their preferences and space. She works with a team of professionals--including her father who works as her upholsterer--who can put the plan into action. Her clients also have the option to implement her plan on their own. In addition to helping clients create beautiful, practical spaces, Kimberly is able to use her creative skills teaching art at a Wake Forest elementary school two days per week. For more than four years, she’s served as the leader of Wake Forest Girl Scout Troop 780 and enjoys spending time with her husband, their son, daughter and dog Cookie.
