Katherine Forst Mosaics

EXCELLENT! I had an idea to do a NYC subway–style sign on one wall of the shower during a gut renovation. I found the original artist … the one who did the middle part that says “67th Street,” online ... and she did a terrific job, but it was smaller than I had hoped. That original artist didn’t have time to add a border so the search began to find a mosaic artist who could finish the piece … and that’s when I found Katherine. We connected immediately over the phone, and after trading photos I met her at her studio where I was overwhelmed by the ideas and sketches she presented me with … she had done her homework! Of course, the contractor needed the work immediately, so Katherine finished the mosaic in record time. When I picked up the finished mosaic from her studio in Brooklyn and drove it back to Manhattan, I damn near killed myself (several times!) because I kept turning around, in amazement, to see what a work of art she had created! Of course, after seeing the mosaic up in the shower, I had Katherine design a mirror to compliment the sign and it is every bit as spectacular as the sign. Finding Katherine on Houzz was my good luck. She is an artist and a consummate professional. She was helpful, interested, kind, fair, honest, and simply a delight to work with in every possible way. If you have an idea … bring it to Katherine. Or, look at her work and get inspired.

Katherine restored a custom-made mosaic table that had begun losing pieces around the edges because of rust of the underlying table based. She found China patterns to match the original, completely restored the mosaic, repainted the based, picked it up and re-delivered it all on time, and it's beautiful! I highly recommend her for creativity and work ethic!

I commissioned Katherine to make a mosaic of a puffin for my wife's birthday. I gave her a couple pictures of what I had in mind. Within a week she had made a sketch of what she proposed to do and gave me options on the techniques, sizes, and prices. Once the decisions had been made, she delivered a beautiful framed 8" x 10" mosaic of a puffin, on time and on budget. I highly recommend Katherine. Her European training and willingness to work with her customers make her a great choice for your mosaic work.

I bought a number of pieces for my family as gifts. I loved the the composition and the simplicity of her suject matter. U rarely by art but felt ut was a unique opportunity.

I purchased Katherine Forst's Gestures IV. I wish I could show it to you, but go to her website to see it (http://www.kforstmosaics.com/fine-art/). Its the merest outline of a face, but it conveys, for me, a lovely artistic line, and also strong emotion. The second I saw this piece at a gallery showing I knew I had to have it. I think it is completely original, and I was captivated -- love at first sight!

Katherine designed and executed a mosaic for our kitchen remodel. She consulted with us on the pattern and color scheme, and it truly exceeded our expectations. We were looking for something that would make our small San Francisco kitchen feel unique and special, and her beautiful work nails it. We get compliments on it from everyone! We love having a one-of-a-kind conversation piece.

I asked Katherine to make a small mosaic in the shape of a turnip to be used as a wall hanging. She did a beautiful job. It is just what I was looking for- the colors, shape and texture are wonderful. It arrived nicely framed, too. I highly recommend any work created by this talented artist ! John

I recently purchased a beautiful mosaic from Katherine Forst Mosaics entitled "Black Lemons." The mosaic, roughly 18" square, is a composition of black lemons on a white background. The craftsmanship is remarkable. The modern design combined with ancient Italian mosaic techniques makes this art piece so unique and original.

I enjoyed talking with the artist at the gallery where the piece I bought was shown, and appreciated learning details about how it was made. She clearly has high standards for producing what she envisions, and for how clients will be using (or displaying) what she has made (for me, that was installing the right kind of hardware for hanging the piece after I bought it). "Gestures ii" is an unusual mosaic--a kind of "drawing" using hand-cut tiles in soft brown tones on an unframed white background. It is a subtle and beautiful portrait--quiet and introspective. I bought it because I love it, but I also thought it would work well in our 100+ year old Craftsman home. It does--and is more beautiful the more I look at it.

I have seen Katie's mosaics several times on exhibit and it is always wonderful. She is so helpful and cheerful and explains questions, which is very helpful and enlightening to a new comer to mosaic work. Katie is very available at an exhibit and very open to questions and seems to be very knowledgeable. She has had a wonderful education in mosaics work and as usual this makes explaining it much easier to understand. I purchased the sweetest teapot - a gorgeous green, perfect circle of mosaics and surrounded with a little copper edge. I love it and have had many compliments. I wouldn't miss a Katie Forst show!

I own a wonderful Katherine Forst mosaic. Although Katherine's work is usually very large, my mosaic is quite small (7" x 7"), but a beautiful piece of work. I commissioned Katherine to create a mosaic in the traditional Greek/Roman style: simple designs of animal motifs on mainly white marble backgrounds. The subject of my mosaic is a Stellar Jay, a blue jay species common to northern California. The background is made of very small chips of white/off-white/grayish marble. The piece is bordered in the traditional way, surrounded with a single row of black marble on the outer edges. The central image of the bird is stunning: it appears almost 3-dimensional in some areas due to meticulous placement of the different hues of blue glass that Katherine used to create the form. The glass adds sparkle in contrast to the "matte" of the marble. Most of Katherine's work is larger than my piece, but is it exactly what I wanted. She is wonderful to work with, and the project delivered on time and within my budget.

Katherine Forst is a very talented artist. She made for my garden/patio wall, here at my San Francisco townhouse, a gorgeous mosaic reproduction of an ancient Byzantine mosaic fragment that is on the floor of a church in Ravenna, Italy. It looks magnificent on my wall. I hope that Katherine can post a photo of the piece onto this review so that everybody can see it. Her prices are fair, and she delivered the piece on time.
