We have worked with Mele Contracting, Inc. for the past 10 years on our clients home renovations, installations of kitchens, bathrooms, closet wardrobe systems and wall units, and the renovation of our own TriBeCa showroom. All our products are high end design and manufactured in Italy. John’s working experience with these products over the years has proven to be immeasurable. His knowledge and capabilities have enabled us to take on bigger and more complicated projects. Without a professionalism of Mele Contracting, Inc. we could not have accomplished these jobs. We rely on John for his experience, expertise and ideas. His ability to know what can and cannot be done makes our design process simpler and less complicated. We have experienced major challenges with some of our product installations particular where we have had to mate the European with the American measurements. In fact, we have an associate with a project unrelated to us who had John come in to fix and installations done by others. Over the last 20 years, Nova Studio International Inc. (the previous owner of Poliform USA Inc.) an importer of high end Italian contemporary furniture and design showroom has developed a successful and professional relationship with Mele contracting Inc.. We have consecutively hired Mele Contracting Inc. to install our furniture, kitchens, closets, doors, bathrooms and other design furniture for our clients. The work included very large project as well as smaller ones. Complete apartment renovations at New York landmark locations, entire new multi-residential buildings to various smaller projects in the New York and other US cities. John Mele and his team worked on a complete renovation of my Upper East Side 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom apartment in New York City, including gutting a kitchen, retiling and soundproofing a kitchen floor, installing kitchen cabinets and all new appliances, installing a washer/dryer including a pan to sense any water overflow, ripping out and installing marble floors in all bathrooms, replacing all the vanities and medicine cabinets, installing new electrical outlets and lights throughout the apartment including new chandeliers in 2 bedrooms, dining room and living room, taking down wall paper, installing crown and baseboard molding throughout all rooms, adding molding to all door frames throughout the apartment. He finished on time and on budget. John is a smart contractor. He knows his materials, products available to solve any renovation problem that may arise, and in general has an excellent fund of knowledge about his work. We were able to come up with renovation plans for the NYC coop board with his help without hiring an additional architect, that was approved by the board. He was able to find asbestos testers that the building required that were reasonably priced. He helped maneuver the NYC DOB. When new problems came up, he figured out solutions - for example to soundproof a wall that we didn't know at the start of the renovation needed to be soundproofed. John's crew is on site daily and John himself responds quickly to questions by text and email. He is flexible, practical and easy to talk to. His crew have worked with him for many years and are courteous about being in your home. The materials he uses are high quality - the doors he ordered were probably nicer doors than I would have ordered myself, the molding he used solid wood. You get quality craftsmanship. When we had to move in before renovations were completely done, John worked around that - by making sure that the spaces we would move into were finished first. John Mele is a smart, reasonable and easy-to-work with professional. He does work for professional showrooms, and the quality of his work and finishes speak for themselves. Also, how can you not support a prior NYC firefighter who worked in the Bronx for 10 years. Upstanding professional whom I would recommend to friends and family, as many have done before me.
