Melissa is a very talented and enthusiastic designer. We hired her to help select paint colors, kitchen backsplash tiles, bathroom shower tile, wallpaper, lighting, and carpet. She was very affable, easy to work with, and was quick to discern the style we envisioned for our home. I highly recommend Melissa Fields to anyone struggling with the many decisions and intricacies that a home renovation entails.

OMG OMG OMG!!!! Where do I start!!!! From the first phone call and meeting with Melissa, I knew we would be in good hands! We were new to the design process, and she literally guided us through every step of the way, explained everything in detail, and made sure we understood everything! I am SO happy to be writing this review!! Melissa is very talented and detail oriented! There are no words to describe the amount of joy and happiness to see my desired vision come together during the reveal! I called Melissa and after speaking to her for a few minutes, I automatically knew that I was in the right hands! We immediately started working on ideas, visions, and goals and I wasn’t quite sure what I needed at first but Melissa was there to the rescue. I call her “Super Woman”because she managed, coordinated juggled several plates without any of them falling! A woman of many many talents! By far the BEST! Our home renovation journey started 2 months ago on an established home that needed, what I call "a hug." However the work involved in researching, browsing, and trying to make sure everything flowed together was beginning to become overwhelming, which is when I decided to reach out to Melissa from Shades of Gray. Right from the beginning Melissa, the owner and founder, was prompt, professional and had an infectious can-do attitude. Melissa was able to come over to my home with samples, paint swatches, and a wealth of information. My husband and I recently moved into a new home (built in 2004) and we needed guidance in updating the decor. Melissa was very helpful in offering advice and ideas on how to add a contemporary flair to our Tuscan style home. She was friendly and professional during our 2 hour in-home consultation. The suggestions she gave helped us to achieve a new look that is comfortable, cozy and classy! We are very happy with the decorating assistance that Melissa provided.

I enjoyed talking to Melissa and having her share her knowledge of interior design with me; a complete novice in this field. She is very knowledgeable, personable and professional! All around, a great human being! At the beginning of our consultation, we got caught up on a subject we are both very passionate about and time flew by. Consultation was scheduled for 2 hours but because we lost track of time, she honored that time lost and added an additional 30 minutes to our consultation to make sure she provided all needed information and all my questions were answered. Our family had just moved to San Antonio when we hired Melissa. My husband hired her as a gift to me because he knew I was overwhelmed with the move and all the craziness in our lives along with making our new house OUR home. Melissa was simply AMAZING! She is professional, organized, and insightful. I am one of those people that knows what they like when they see it, but I don't always have the terminology to describe what I want. Melissa evaluated our tastes and helped articulate visuals/samples of what we actually wanted. (Even when we were not sure ourselves!) Melissa has a true sense of style, flow and function for a home. Shades of Gray Design is a wonderful company! Mrs. Melissa gave me so much insight on my decor project within my living room area and bedroom. She was very personable, knowledgeable, and she showed me visuals of the things we talked about!! We hired Melissa to come and evaluate our space to provide some direction for our muddled vision in May of 2020. We were unsure how much help we needed so we hired her for a 2 hour consultation. We were able to cover a lot of ground in the 2 hours and she was very generous with her time and expertise. I’m happy to report with her guidance we were able to make design decisions that finally compliment our space! I look forward to hiring her when we’re ready to tackle other areas in our house!

As soon as I opened the door for Melissa I knew she was the designer for me. She was very pleasant and easy to speak with. We ended up running over our consultation time, but that’s because we were too busy chatting like girlfriends lol. Even then, She did not rush for us to finish. Even if I don’t hire Melissa full time for my project, she definitely left me with the knowledge to complete it on my own. I can’t tell she is really passionate about her career and that means a lot to me. Again, if I didn’t hire Melissa it would be only because she gave me the confidence I wanted to do this on my own. Highly recommend! Next time I’ll have wine and snacks for us.

Melissa was a joy to meet upon entry. She was very specific with her suggestions going forward with my home design such as starting with the living room seating first and branching out from there since I have an open concept home. She was very detailed with window treatments and how to place wall art, but to keep it simple and elegant. I will continue to use her services going forward.

Melissa listened carefully to input from both me and my husband to develop several potential color choices for the appointment at our home. The meeting went great, as she came well prepared with swatches that we took outside to consider in daylight right up to our brick. It made the process of narrowing down our decision so much easier than I had anticipated! She put us both at ease with a true love of her job. Update June 2021: That's my second time working with Melissa, and I am very pleased with the results. This part of my house renovation included both my bathrooms and the laundry room. I don't know what to say except I never worked with the best designer AND the best manager. In fact, the photos can tell louder than words, so please see them on the Shades of Gray Design Studio/Projects page under titles "Main Bathroom Remodel" and "Small Master Bath Remodel" in Cibolo, TX. That's how my bathrooms look right now. Do you want bathrooms like mine in your house? Hire Melissa! Feb 2020: I've hired Melissa to help me with my new house interior design. The whole project is huge and so far we finished only with the first stage of the project: flooring, wall/ceiling painting, curtain rods, and some small fixes around the house. To figure out what I want for my floor and walls I had to kinda look in the future and decide how the whole interior will look and I found myself struggling... Melissa called me back the same day I left the message on her company's website. In a couple of days she stopped by and we spent two hours figuring things together. When the consultation was over I was so impressed that I hired Melissa to help me with choosing flooring, paint and contractors who will do everything. After a month of our work together the house looks amazing and it makes me happy. Almost all Melissa suggestions proved to be the best choice for me. She completely changed my mind about what kind of flooring I would like. She could pick a wall color in 5 minutes and say it would match perfectly and after I tried different colors for a week I would find that her choice is the best of all possible... again. Contractors she found for me were very trustworthy, worked hard and I am very satisfied with the results. Melissa has the opposite of "pushing" personality. She is very kind and energetic at the same time. She kindly suggested multiple deviations from my original plan and showed me multiple options, but if I chose something different she was very open to work with it. I would love to continue to work with Melissa on the next stage of the project after I move into my new house. I recommend Melissa to everyone including realtors. She can help to transform "a house" to "home" that reflects your personality or make the house on a market to look very attractive for possible buyers.

I found my experience with Shades of Gray Design very enlightening and transforming. Melissa was so warm, patient, and professional which totally eliminated my anxiety/apprehensions of bringing a stranger into my home and change the way I had it decorated.
