About Us

Founded in 1984, we've been building our reputation for thoughtful landscaping style with discerning residential and commercial clients throughout the Dutchess, Putnam and Fairfield county region. Native Landscapes, Inc. is your first source for landscaping needs in the Hudson Valley region of New York. Pete Muroski, nurseryman, environmentalist and native landscape contractor has worked in gardening and landscaping since his youth. Having a life-long love of the outdoors and a passion for plants, he founded Native Landscapes, Inc. in 1987 as an environmentally friendly full-service native plant garden center and landscape design management company in rural Dutchess County, New York. Pete has guided his business toward the goal of working together with nature. His common sense garden practices are naturalistic in approach and sustain cleaner air, soil, and water. Native Landscapes is a design / build landscaping company engaged principally in residential and commercial landscaping in Southeastern New York and Western Connecticut.

I found everyone at Native Landscapes very knowledgeable and helpful. Pete Muroski, the owner, came to my house and walked over the garden, making some very good suggestions. He also offered advice on how to care for the other plants in my garden. His crew arrived on time, were polite and helpful. They planted a White Oak and a Chestnut Oak (about 8ft tall) in the front of my house. They then moved a Weeping Hemlock from the back of the garden towards the front so it could be seen from the house. Lastly they planted an Eastern Red Cedar on the hillside behind my house. They gave me fertilizer for the Hollies. I had read Douglas Tallamy's book "Bringing Nature Home" about the absolute necessity for planting native plants to keep the biodiversity of our native bugs and birds etc., alive. Pete's Native Landscapes is an important company promoting the well being of our planet! I will definitely use his company on any future projects and will recommend him to others.

We were so pleased with the professionalism, knowledge and customer service provided by the entire Native Landscapes team. Pete spent a lot of time with us on his first visit to understand what we wanted to do (we had a LONG list of possible projects), and he made several suggestions that really made sense. He got back to us quickly with reasonable estimates broken down into the different activities so that we could choose projects we could do now vs. what would have to wait for next year. And the team was there when they said they would be, they were efficient, and they cleaned up when they left. But what really makes me go WOW is that Pete's insight to what we needed based on his review of our property - we had a problem with water leaking into our basement - and his first suggestion was to put in a french drain around the perimeter and re-grade the area around the house. Totally solved our problem quickly and inexpensively - and we couldn't be happier about it!

We contracted with Native Landscaping to rebuild a stone wall and steps. The workmanship was just terrific! The project was completed in record time, the work men were professional, great at their jobs and a delight to work with. Everything went as planned: timeframe, budget, knowledge and the work itself. We are most pleased, and intend to work with Native Landscaping again.
