About Us

Smith Painting began operation in 1997 with one employee, me, Sean Smith. I ran the company then, and do now, as an integrity based, honest painting company. I consider it a privilege to be invited into a clients home and help see a homeowners vision through to completion. Although I have had opportunities to grow the company larger than what is currently constituted, I have chosen to carry 6-10 employees in order to be able to stay better connected to my clients. I believe in being a visible presence at all of our projects. Our projects range from painting a single bathroom up to 8,000 square foot homes as well as some of Chicago’s most well known restaurants. Every project presents a unique set of challenges that must be met with hard work, determination and know how. Most homeowners do not know what a good paint job is supposed to look like. Only after hiring Smith Painting do they realize that paint drops on the floor are not normal. Straight, crisp edges are the rule, not the exception. Courteous, on time and polite workers should be expected and not hoped for by the client. The employees of Smith Painting know this and practice it on every project. Sean Smith with his crew painted multiple interior areas in my 1916 home. The walls included crown moulding and "picture frame" moulding on the ceilings, and the plaster needed to be repaired in many areas prior to painting. The walls and ceilings post-project now look perfect! The crew was careful with removing pictures, moving around furniture, and covering up items prior to painting, including my many vintage wall sconces. He and his crew were easy to work with as well. They showed up exactly at the planned time each day and cleaned up at the end of each day. I was kept apprised of their plans. I was very happy with them overall and will definitely use again!

We used Smith Painting and Decorating for the exterior painting of our entire home. Our home is 130 years old and needed a lot of care to be prepped for new paint. Sean and his crew ensured meticulous prep work and they delivered. Our home has been given a new life due to their expertise- even our neighbors have been buzzing about how great it turned out! Over the two week process, the crew cleaned up our yard every single day. Sean was extremely communicative and showed up several times to talk through the day's work. We cannot say enough good things or express enough gratitude for the quality of work and professionalism.

Our house was built in 1926 with plaster walls and wood trim. Smith Painting recently repaired and refinished our plaster walls that had been damaged from a structural failure. From our first meeting with Sean to the completion of the project Sean and his team were the upmost professionals. Sean carefully examined the damaged walls and made appropriate recommendations for repairing them. The workers came into our home while we were away and completely repaired major and minor cracks and painted the walls and trim to beautifully match what we had before the damage. I was concerned about having workers in my home while we were away but Sean kept in touch with us and when we walked into our home after the work was complete we were pleasantly surprised at how neat and clean they had kept our home. The work is perfect! Smith Painting will be the first company I call in the future whenever we need painting or plastering done - they are truly the best!

Smith Painting is excellent! Wonderful, friendly crew! Great attention to detail and lots of patience. They painted my whole house after an amazing prep job. Great care was taken in preparing the walls, doors, trims, baseboards and ceilings to make sure the paint job would be professionally finished. Well worth the price. I highly recommend Smith Painting if you are looking for a timely and beautifully finished project!

Sean and his men did a fantastic job. Sean’s crew are the best. They were polite and comfortable to have in my home. The quality of work exceeded my expectations. Not only did they paint my entire lower level, but they replaced all of the baseboards, changed the trim on all of my brown wood and painted my old brown doors. My house looks like a new home.

Sean did an excellent job painting the trim on our 3 story stucco house, plus refinishing our wooden front doors. He was very timely getting us an estimate and in completing the work on budget. Sean's team did an excellent job of prepping the walls of a kitchen and family room area that had over thirty years of wallpaper removed, leaving lots of gouges and some drywall destruction. The work was done efficiently and they responded to any questions or concerns we had as they completed each step of the process. Looking forward to them starting the next project later this year!
