DCI Architecture Ltd

Established in 2002 by director Darren Insley, a Chartered Architectural Technologist. Darren has over 20 years experience in architectural practice and has been practising on his own since June 1998 after qualifying as an Architectural Technologist earlier that year. In February 1998, following completion of my academic studies, I gained membership to BIAT (British Institute of Architectural Technicians) now known as The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.(CIAT) Four months later, I left the company I was working for as principal designer to set up an architectural practice with a colleague, where I was a partner for four years. In June 2002 I set up DCI Architecture Ltd. Over the years I have been fortunate to be involved in many schemes varying from small domestic extensions for private clients, to large housing developments for developers. Following the initial consultation a fee proposal is prepared and sent to the client. If the proposal is acceptable, confirmation is required from the client (called an instruction) for work to commence. Normally the first stage is for a measured survey to be carried out and once this has been done existing drawings are prepared. After the existing drawings have been finished, initial designs are prepared and forwarded to the client. Once the client has had an opportunity to consider the design, a meeting would be set up to discuss in more detail the proposed design. Depending upon the complexity of the proposal, an initial consultation may be carried out with the Local Planning Authority (although this is very rare on domestic extensions). Subsequently formal drawings are prepared. On larger projects these are normally planning drawings, on domestic extensions production drawings. These are then sent to the client for final approval, following approval the planning application would be submitted.
