Tony Ryder Design

Tony Ryder oversaw the conversion of an outbuilding at my home into an Airbnb annexe. He worked closely (and patiently) with me on the design over several months, offering some great suggestions. When the build began, Tony sourced some great contractors and project-managed their work throughout, visiting the site daily to check on progress. The result exceeded my expectations and has been a big hit with my Airbnb guests, who frequently feedback on the high quality of the design and finish. Tony was recommended to me for work on my cottage in 2019 and I'd thoroughly recommend him on to anyone who needs to extend, refresh or update their property. My little cottage had been previously and cheaply "butchered" - it was a 1760's house and a previous owner had shoved in square plastic modern windows leaving the beautiful ornamental brickwork where the windows used to be showing but obsolete (like eyebrows!) so Tony and I worked to bring the house back to it's original state with old fashioned cottage windows in the place they should be and through a local carpenter (who I'd also recommend!). The house needed work on a large chimney that had been removed above the roofline, and beside that conundrumn it wasn't an easy job because the walls were a combination of cement, wood, and what appears to be paper!! So it was quite a challenge. He designed some amazing space saving furniture for my entrance hallway, introduced me to looks that the thought would work (and that I would like) and had a vision for my house that fitted with it's age, space and height restrictions. His enthusiasm for light, space and comfort was really fantastic and he made me more aware of how to make the best of my own property and I couldn't be happier with the results. He was also able to help me envisage an extension at the back of the house that was in keeping with it being a sweet, old little cottage which easily passed planning (the local council were delighted to see one of the oldest houses in the village returned to it's former state at the front and the modest plans of the back). He was really detail orientated for fitting and light too which I found helpful. He was always cheerful, on time and I was delighted with the results.

Working with Tony on this self build project has been an utter pleasure. From the first meeting he intuitively understood the ideas and needs of our project. Not only understanding the importance of the projects essentials he came up with clever storage solution, he has fantastic vision and creative ideas. He made us think outside the box and through clever design we were able to fit everything in on our budget. He made the whole process incredibly enjoyable and stress free.

Tony was both creative and pragmatic on our massive rennon project on this 1978 link detached house that had been neglected and unloved since the previous owner was taken ill, some time back. His use of space and introduction of light and curves into areas of the house have been elemental in creating more space for us and we are delighted with the thoughtful choice of materials. Always will to help and be pro-active in a "soft-way" and working well with the building team made the project and enjoyable and rewarding experience.
