Sutherland Hussey Architects
About Us
Charlie Sutherland and Charlie Hussey studied together at the Mackintosh School of Architecture before going on to both work for the late Sir James Stirling. After six years working for Stirling, Charlie Hussey spent a brief period in Italy working for Renzo Piano. During this time Charlie Sutherland took on the role of associate at Michael Wilford and Partners where he was responsible for the new British Embassy in Berlin and the Lowry Centre in Salford. Colin Harris joined the practice after it was established in the late nineties having worked for Zaha Hadid in London and Marchese Partners in Sydney and became the third director in 2005. David McKenna joined the practice in 2005 and became a director in 2013.
Current projects reflect an ethos of diversity rather than specialisation. Our approach to all projects is to start from first principles, addressing each design problem objectively. It is believed that through omission of preconceived ideas the process will always throw new light on the creative potential of the programme and site. The studio has an informal and open atmosphere which enables extensive input from all team members, consultants and clients.
