Susana Blanco

Hello everyone! I am Susana Blanco, a Spanish artist now based in London with more than 20 years of experience. My paintings are for those who really love bright and vibrant colours. I am best known for my organic images of Nature in relation to humans. After many years of exploring many painting technics, now I am focussing in encaustic. Encaustic painting, also known as wax painting, involves using heated beeswax and resin mixed with coloured pigments. This technique was used in the Fayum mummy portraits in Egypt around 100–300 AD. The benefits of this medium to me are its dimensional quality and bright colour, although is technically difficult to master. Also I am interested in using this technique in murals and outdoor paintings because the well resistance to sun and weather conditions. Starting in Madrid studying in various academies, I completed a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts in 1999 at Complutense University of Madrid, Spain and a Bachelor degree in Art and Design at Anglia Ruskin University in Colchester, UK in 2000. After a few years of work experience I re-joined the University for a Master Degree in Contemporary Art in 2010 at European University of Madrid, Spain and now I am currently doing the last step of my PhD in Fine Arts exploring the Encaustic as main subject of my thesis. All the paintings are hand done and can be personalised for clients’ requirements.
