About Us

Lead by designer Richard Gordon, GDC is a London and Berkshire based Design & Build firm with a vast amount of experience in both the residential and hospitality sector. Richard is driven to create extraordinary spaces, including designing interiors and extraordinary furniture that clients are proud to have in their homes. He is an expert in managing the challenges of renovating sensitive, old buildings into beautiful, functional, comfortable living spaces and he is able to guide homeowners; from initial thoughts through to the final project handoff. No matter how large or small the project is, GDC prides itself on its attention to detail. In addition, Richard's creative and forward-thinking ideas had led him into following a passion of creating truly bespoke products out of a unique range of materials. This is an evolving process and the results will often show signs of their origins alongside hints of having been hand-worked, but each is designed to try and capture the material at its best. GDC's build expertise and interior creativity helps simplifies the entire process for a more enjoyable experience for homeowners while keeping projects feasible, within realistic budgets and timelines.

Richard and his team have recently completed a fantastic refurbishment of our family / garden room situated in Cookham. Having already progressed the design work for our refurbishment works with another D&B contractor, we were facing an overly complex and costly design when it came to costing for the build. We decided to go back out to the market and luckily came across Richard! He offered some great options for simplifying our design and providing some gratefully received value engineering ideas to suit suit our budget. Richard has been so personable throughout the whole project and his keen eye for detail and general organisation throughout the build has been second to none. His team were professional, trustworthy and most importantly skilled. We certainly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Richard to others. A rare find.

GDC designed and managed the entire refurbishment of our 3 bedroom house and garden. They were also extremely cost effective, cheaper than the nearest alternative quote and kept the project within budget. Throughout the process the team worked with the care and attention as if it were their own house. Often pointing out things they felt could be improved, we are delighted with the finished result. The decor is finished to a very high standard, design details have been thoughtfully considered and there was a willingness throughout to make sure we were fully involved in decisions. The result is a warm welcoming home, clean and contemporary. The letting agents (one of the largest in West London) said it is one of the nicest homes they have let in recent years and it was snapped up at near asking price in a week. Thank you Richard, Jamie and the rest of the team!

Richard and his team of crafts people did a superb job transforming London Cru, the UK’s first urban winery. The brief was to keep the space functional so we could easily make wine in the day, and atmospheric so that we could use it as an entertainment space in the evenings. His clever use of colour and lighting achieved this, whilst handmade elements, such as a tasting table made from recycled cellar wood, gave it the wow factor. If you want an original design, with bespoke features and plenty of soul, GDC will deliver.

Our company (Roberson Wine) first employed GDC in 1991 to completely redesign and refurbish an existing 4000 sq ft shop on Kensington High Street from a kitchen showroom into an iconic wine retailer. Richard Gordon and his team were genuinely fantastic in this endeavour, creating a shop that became recognised as being the most interesting wine outlet in the country. The design was highly original with fluid organic influences, interesting materials and atmospheric lighting. The net result was masterful. We further employed GDC between 2013 and 2017 to design tasting rooms etc in the first urban winery to be opened in the UK. Again the effect was transformational. Richard Gordon is an inspirational designer.

I approached Richard Gordon to design features for a mixed use house in the Spitalfields conservation area. The challenge was to create a new visual identity which was modern, functional and timeless - as the building had been previously stripped of any historic details and used as a sweat shop in East End ragt trade. Richard succeeded in giving they whole a wonderful look and feel. He fusses about detail as much as I do, which is a great plus. I'd highly recommend working with him.
