Charles Clarke & Son Builders

I employed Charles Clarke to partially renovate my listed building over the course of 12 months. Some of the work they did was good, but some was not. One full side of my house was stripped back to the studs (which Charles Clarke repaired), before building the wall out with Steico board, lathe and finally lime render. A little over 3 years after the rendering was complete, and after they had already repaired cracking once during the defect period, we are now getting quotes to have Charles Clarke's render stripped out and replaced by another firm. At this point,approximately 2/3 of the render on the wall has failed. The render can be crumbled between the fingers, like loose sand. Charles Clarke deny that this work is defective and have refused to fix it. They were unable to find copies of our contract, unaware when they visited what work they had undertaken, and have been generally unresponsive to enquires, taking at times over a month to reply to e-mails despite chasing. Other work that Charles Clarke did on the house was good. However, I am disappointed by their disinterest in standing by the quality of their work. On that basis, I cannot recommend Charles Clarke.
