Dear John, Thank you so much for the work you and your team have done to turn the derelict space at the bottom of my garden into a real Oasis. It is a very special place and I plan to spend a great deal of time there. Like any project, it had it’s unforeseen glitches. Unexpected obstructions, roadworks making difficult access even worse, and truly terrible weather were unwelcome but the team have risen to the challenge every time, with patience, fortitude and an impressive can-do approach. Nothing seems to have fazed them. Sam and Rowan have been massively reassuring and positive, and the project was run very respectfully. The team they led have been helpful and a joy to have around. I never, for one moment, doubted that you would deliver my design to provide a world-class space for me to enjoy. You have fully met, and surpassed my expectations and I look forward to watching the garden grow and develop through the seasons.

We recently had a full renovation of our garden carried out by Aoba Gardens and had the most fantastic experience. My wife and I can’t recommend them enough. We ourselves had them recommended by a friend as a company that produces lovely designs, is highly practical and comes in on budget and time. - which was very much our own experience with them. 1. Setting the budget and scoping the project: Over the course of three meetings, John sat down with us to listen to our requirements and came up with a very clear well documented proposal that was detailed and transparent and formed a terrific base to work from and establish trust. 2. The design process and end product: We had a broad view of how we wanted our garden to look but no knowledge of what was doable and certainly very little knoweldge of plants etc. We knew we wanted a large deck that would be easy maintenance and a patio and separate grass area but again no real knowedge of materials. We had some idea of plants but only loosely. Once we had signed up with Aoba, we went into a design phase with Aoba’s designer, the amazing Vivien, supported throughout by John the owner. Vivien has a fantastic ability to both listen intently and with infinite patience to our ideas and convert them into concrete and practical realities as well as bringing her own imaginaition and experience to make suggestions which we incorporated. She was able to do this not only for the strucutral design but also in recommending colours for our fence (lavender) and shed (green) and above all a lovely range of plants including a herb garden with lavender which we totally love. The result far exceeded our expectations - an end product which we love and feel is transformative. 3. The build process: This was completely stress-free - actually enjoyable! Aoba worked through February and March to hit on time an agreed deadline of April. Sam provived oversight with focus and again much care and attention to our needs while Joel and Tony turned up rain and shine like clockwork with cheery faces and a fabulous work ethic. They worked seamlessly with Vivien and John. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they even assembled our new garden furniture for us ! I received three quotes before proceeding with Aoba and feel they are extremely good value for money. My wife and I recommend the whole team wholeheartedly and are very grateful to have found them. when we purchased our house no gardening was done for a long time so it was just an overgrown jungle you may say. i gave small briefing to John on how we would imagine our garden to look like, but relied mostly on John's ideas. John and his team came up with even better design than what initially we imagined. John's team was professional from design to implementing the design and work was done with high standard in timely manner. all materials recommended by John were of a high quality with best price. end result is that we have a little oases in our backyard which we enjoy in summer as well as in winter. a big thanks to John and his team. i must say that normally one might think that to hire a professional is costly but in my opinion it long term it actually save you money. i highly recommend to hire a professional especially Aoba Landscapes.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Aoba on our garden redesign in West London. They were not the cheapest but we knew they would be our preferred contractor from the moment we met John and talked the design through with him. His team were highly professional throughout, giving pragmatic advice and working closely with our designer. They left the site clean and tidy at the end of the day and at weekends. John and his team did an outstanding job installing soft landscaping at my project in London. I interviewed three different contractors for the job and John stood out from the very first introduction. I'm so happy that I went with him! He has a terrific "can do" attitude. No request was too much or too difficult. Our design called for very large trees to be brought down a narrow side passage and John approached it with confidence, even when it seemed impossible! Our garden also suffers from heavy clay soil, which was very tough to work in. His guys toiled away for a whole week conditioning the soil and setting the garden up for success. They were polite, extremely punctual, and very happy to take instructions from me. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. I can't comment on John's landscape design, since in this instance we had a design before we approached him. But he knows his plants and was very helpful in thinking through some proposed alterations to the design at the last minute. The pricing was clear up front and there were no unexpected add-ons at the end. All in all a pleasure to work with. I'd definitely recommend John to anyone.

John and the team at Aoba worked with us on the renovation of our garden and roof terrace. John worked closely with us to design something for these spaces that suited our needs and was tailored to the aesthetic we wanted. We went through a few different iterations and John worked patiently with us to incorporate our feedback about the design. John's design demonstrated a stunning use of the limited space we had available, which made both areas feel spacious yet also private without feeling walled-in. It includes a wonderful mixture of nature and usable outdoor space. When it came to construction, the Aoba team ran an incredibly tight ship. The project started on the day the team specified, and ran to schedule to within a day or two. Overall things took six weeks as specified; I was expecting the schedule to slip but it didn't! This was incredible. The team were professional, friendly and efficient. The team also respected our requests around property access: to avoid causing issues with neighbours, Aoba were incredibly respectful and dropped off all equipment and supplies (and removed all rubbish) quickly and quietly. They never blocked the street and were able to complete the project without needing a skip on the road which was a big relief in our case. The team were also very careful when moving materials inside the house, protecting surfaces and walls from any damage. After the works were finished there were a couple of construction issues with the project; once I'd noticed the issues I informed John and his team and I was incredibly impressed by their response: they immediately responded and booked a time to come round and take a look. They applied an initial smaller fix and were transparent about the fact that it might not work; when it didn't hold, they applied the more in-depth fix to the problem which, while it was a week's worth of work, needed doing. Aoba covered the cost of this; their response and willingness to fix the problem properly has meant that the project is going to last for many years. The end result is stunning and is built to last. The quality of work is amazing: all the woodwork and stone tiling is finished with precision and detail and perfectly fits the shape of the available space, with high-quality materials. Every aspect of the design and construction has incredible attention to detail, when you look closely as well as at the entire space. Both spaces have built-in lighting and outdoor sockets which are installed safely and create a beautiful impression at night time: the electricians used by Aoba were top quality. All the plants are irrigated with pipes underground and behind walls so you can't see them! I have no concerns about the flat roof underneath the roof terrace: it drains well and the decking is lightweight and supported on the roof with padding so as to not damage it. I'm incredibly happy with the spaces that Aoba created, and I'm looking forward to the summer!

We are absolutely delighted with the finished garden that John@Aoba Landscapes designed for us. We had had a rear extension built onto our house which subsequently destroyed our existing garden and significantly reduced its size. Johns design cleverly introduced three different levels and has made the garden appear significantly bigger than it was previously. Before they started, we were provided a daily schedule of work of what would be completed on what date. And the landscapers were amazing (Luna and Andrew). They turned up on time and they worked through all weathers (and I mean all weathers even the heat wave). John has a real eye for detail which I appreciated so he ensured the end product was to a standard he was happy with. The garden was one part of our house project we almost didn't do but looking at the end result we are so pleased we did, and this is due to Aoba Landscapes. I’ll cut straight to the chase – these guys are amazing, and I don’t throw that word around lightly. There have been times when we’ve gone with a company with plenty of five-star reviews and come away wondering what all the fuss was about it. I defy anyone not to be impressed by AOBA. THE BUILD From initial contact, through the design process to the actual build and handover, these guys were faultless. The workmanship is outstanding and it’s evident that they take pride in what they do. We had Luna, Marek and Max work on our garden. They were always polite and respectful, answered all our queries, and tidied up at the end of the day. Everything you want when having work done on your house. One of the nicest things about the build is that AOBA project manage every last detail – you don’t need to do anything apart from give them access to your garden. And any unforeseen issues that come up are handled with no fuss or drama – you get the sense very quickly that you’re in safe hands. THE RESULT Previously, we had a very small London garden – just a few slabs and some fake grass – that was so overlooked we never used it. Now we have a stunning garden that somehow feels so much bigger. And it’s given us that vital privacy from neighbouring houses. We would highly recommend John and his team at Aoba Landscapes. We hired John early in our house extension project to ensure the garden and the house worked together. John came for a number of site visits despite being regularly splashed with concrete from the building works! He provided a couple of initial concepts and then worked up the chosen option, providing a range of ideas and solutions. We also hired the landscaping team to come and build the garden. The team were friendly, efficient, and kept to the promised timescales. Some materials weren’t available due to Brexit and Chris duly found solutions for us. We’re extremely happy with the result, and having a beautiful garden has really changed how much time we spend outdoors.

We recently had our small garden transformed by John and Chris and their talented team including the lovely Luna, Max and Marek, and we are over the moon with the results. They have turned what was an overlooked, tiny square of patio and artificial grass into a really beautiful space which will be a second room for us during the spring and summer months. We now have a beautiful pergola in which to entertain family and friends, a tree to shield overlooking flats behind the house, gorgeous planting, stunning porcelain tiles and a really bespoke design of a garden which we would never have been able to envisage for our back yard. They spent focused one-to-one time with us on several different occasions, making sure that their design was exactly what we wanted. John was engaged to improve the garden and to bring it back to its original state. The project included the development of new and existing terraced areas, design of a new BBQ area, restoration of two natural pools with added decking, enhancements to current drainage systems and improvements to existing planting whilst remaining sympathetic to the original design of the garden. A project very dear to my heart, my in-laws garden was realised to the highest standards thanks to the great work of the team. Their approach was highly professional throughout and I enjoyed working with them in a truly collaborative way. From the beginning they worked with us to achieve the design within the budget. They built all hard landscape elements, boundaries, structures, water features, prepared planting beds and planted trees and hedges. This allowed myself and my in-laws to plant out the remaining shrubs, herbaceous and grass planting keeping the project in budget and helping my in-laws engage with the garden and start to call it their own. Brian and I were very pleased to have employed John and Ben to Transform our small Southwest London garden into something special. The brief was to make it maintenance free, somewhere to sit and entertain friends. We had built a most wonderful brick wall that needed to be show cased with plants. Brian also wanted an old gnarled Olive tree. All of this was achieved by John and his team in a very Professional manner. Nothing was too much trouble and it all seemed to run trouble free.

I feel very lucky to have found John Ward and Azara landscapes and his team. He created exactly the garden I had envisioned adding unusual and inspired additions and ideas. Throughout the period of John’s work no issue was a problem, his workforce all seemed very laid back, charming too and the work simply got done. What started as a rather neglected greenscape with matching muddy lawn has been transformed into an elegant, functional, beautifully lit, additional room that is changing my whole appreciation of my home. We have engaged John (Azara Landscapes) to help with our garden project in south west London. We wanted to convert our neglected, unused space into tropical garden. John helped us with a landscape design and selection of right plants, from small fearns and grasses to bigger trees and palms. John was very patient with my design ideas and we got to a great design, together. Ben and his build team were great. Professional, knowledgeable and on budget! Their camaraderie and laughter on the job tells you everything you need to know about how well they work together. I recommend the Azara team highly!

John was great from the very start. As soon as I made contact, he made time to visit me and listen to my ideas and desires for the small urban space I have. He drew up a few options and met again with me to show different textures for fencing and paving. His ideas book gave me a clear sense of the planting themes for the garden, taking into account lighting and seasonality. John also viewed the progress of the contractors, who he knew well, and was able to report back to me when I was away from the property. Not only was he and his team competent, but worked with vigour and fun despite some hardy weather!

After extensive renovations of our house, we asked John to design our garden within a tight budget, but he managed to come up with a plan which has completely transformed the space into a beautiful garden that we love to admire. We did not give him the simplest of briefs, a garden with a Japanese zen feel that could also double up as a sports field for the kids, but John came up with a great plan. John has done a truly amazing job redesigning our garden. Initially, he was very good at listening to our ideas and then coming up with several proposals to meet our requirements. His knowledge of the different types of wall materials, garden flooring, lighting options and (of course!) plants, that would suit our garden, was extensive. He was always available to answer queries no matter how small and did so promptly and with great care. He has done a super job and we adore our garden, that has a new lease of life! We hired John to re-design our garden for us and provide consulting on the planting plan, realising a specification for a landscape contractor, as well as doing all the planting at the end. We had a very long thin garden with fencing around the perimeter covered in grass, odd couple of trees and some bushes at the far end. Quite dull and boring. John consulted with us several times with on site visits to our garden. He was really helpful and had so many good ideas, especially as we didn't know much about garden design. He explained options for creating the illusion of width with a cleverly designed use of space and type of fencing. John presented us with a couple of design proposals, of which we chose our final design and he contacted landscape gardeners to quote for the job. He has a good eye for detail and created a beautiful modern design with useful decking and patio spaces for relaxing and our barbecue! We especially valued his explanation of how to chose plants, he gave great advice on what works best in sunny and shady areas and gave us lots of handy tips on websites to consult for choosing plants. We are really pleased with how the garden has been redesigned and it's such a amazing change from what we had before. We would definitely recommend him.

We were looking for a designer to create a garden following extensive house renovations and the building of an external annex at the end of the property. We were looking to create a space that joined the two buildings and to give us a small, low maintenance garden that we could enjoy with our 3 growing children. John understood this brief fully and worked with us to look at the options and then produce comprehensive plans for our chosen solution. Once we had our plans John completed the tender exercise to help us find the right person to complete the work. When the garden was built John sourced the plants and completed the planting for us. The garden was completed on time and has completely exceeded our expectations. The kids are able to enjoy the space as well as it providing a place for adults to sit and relax. It feels like an extra room has been added to the property. We have lighting in the garden which makes the space enjoyable at night from both the main house and the annex. We are using the garden every day and could not be happier. John was very easy to work with and made himself available at weekends and in the evening to review plans and discuss options. He kept a close eye on the works and ensured they were completed to the high standard we had all agreed on. We would not hesitate to recommend John as your garden designer. He listened and understood our brief well, he showed the knowledge and creative ability to maximise the use of the available space and it was all delivered within a reasonable budget.

John has done an amazing job of re-designing our garden turning it from a scruffy, messy eyesore into a (what we think is a) beautiful family space. John Ward designed UNHCR’s show garden at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show in 2016, along with fellow designer Tom Massey, winning a gold medal and the coveted Best Conceptual Garden award. John is an exceptionally talented garden designer. His creativity, passion and professionalism were invaluable in bringing the UNHCR Border Control garden to life. The end result was far more than a garden; it captured the essence of the refugee experience and moved many visitors to tears. John has a great can-do attitude and was able to deliver the project on time and on budget. As well as bringing innovative ideas to the project, he was also good at adapting the brief to our specific requirements and budget and finding solutions to some demanding challenges. It was a genuine pleasure working with John and we are already collaborating on future projects.

Hiring John Ward was the best step we could ever have taken. Creative and with massive attention to detail, resourceful and flexible, proactive but not pushy, John not only came up with several different fantastic design options for our garden, he also helped us source the right people to implement the finalised plans. John has the all important personal touch. He really did listen to our brief and came up with creative solutions as well as addressing any challenges before we even knew they might be an issue. All designed and completed in a record time too - we are thrilled.

John did a tremendous job designing and planting our garden and we are thrilled with it. We did not feel like the easiest of clients with our expanding and sometimes contradictory list of requirements, but John dealt with it all. Even when we introduced a big change late on in the design phase ('lots of shade') he stayed calm and enthusiastic and wowed us with his design. We employed a builder who he had not worked with before (but we had) which I know was a concern for John - he worried about the quality of the end finish given they had not worked together before. But he respected our wishes, got on with it and in the end worked side by side with Lukasz and his team to get the garden planted and finished. Whilst all the design work he did was really great, nothing beats actually seeing the garden change during the year and seeing new plants flower and change. Along with feeling we had a new room on the back of the house, and so using the garden far more, has been the biggest plus of his work. He knows his stuff and we now have our low-maintenance space with various reading areas (and lots of shade!). He is/was a delight to work with, stuck to his budgets/timeframe and we enjoy our new space every day. Thanks John!
