Our garden has been transformed from an overgrown mess, to a neat and tidy haven! Bottle Kiln Design are a really professional company, and this is what makes them stand out. They also maintained great communication throughout, with the project manager often popping round in person to discuss or clarify things. In particular: • The team are happy to provide lots of ideas, but they also listen and make sure that you get what you want from your design, adapting as needed • The company owner, Dom, was very hands-on, appearing at 7.30am on the first day, shovel in hand! • All the team - from those doing the building work, to the people doing the planting - are punctual, polite and work a full day. We live in a town house with a small garden at the rear. The garden is challenging as it slopes steeply uphill away from the house towards a wall at the far end. Furthermore, it was tired and dated as no serious work had been carried out since the house was built in the 1970’s. It needed a new energy and vision. For some years we had wanted to upgrade and improve the garden. After some initial thoughts, we realised that we needed help, both with thinking through some options and with carrying out the work involved. To this end we asked a number of garden and landscaping companies to come and look at our garden and come up with some design options. Most came to look and said they were busy but would get back to us soon. None did so until we asked ‘Bottle Kiln Design’ (BKD) to help. Dominic Stone came and looked at the site. We talked through our initial thoughts and he immediately engaged with the project. He went away with our ideas and then came back with some suggestions and options. He was able to see what was possible and – importantly – what these options were likely to cost. Over the next few weeks BKD helped to develop a vision and a design for our garden and a plan was agreed together with a budget to do the work. Now that the construction and landscaping is compete and the initial planting has bedded in, we have been enjoying our new garden very much. It has matched and even exceeded our expectations. A great place in which to relax and forget the impositions of ‘Lock-Down’. It would be naïve to expect works of this magnitude to go without some hitches and indeed there were some unforeseen issues which caused a bit of stress at the time resulting in both the timescales and budget being stretched beyond initial expectations. However, we have ended up with a fantastic garden – thanks to Dominic Stone and BKD.

Brilliant work, garage has been admired by neighbours and passers by. Got planning permission so quick and they worked through some of this winter's worst weather. They totally impressed our next door neighbour, who's drive they stored some of their gear on. She even asked them if they would do her a garage next. The architecture fits in beautifully with the 1920s art deco street. Only problems were not Bottle Kiln but people they brought in to do the rendering, they made an awful mess, which was a shock after the care Bottle Kiln had taken every day to clear up after themselves. Couple of tiles have slipped off the roof but easily fixed.

I’ve used Bottle Kiln Design for 3 projects now on 2 separate properties over a 4 year period. Not many companies offer the whole package to include the design element and then be able to deliver the design in practice. As I said we’ve used them on 3 project and that speaks volumes. Hettys Teashop wanted an outside eating and drinking area for customers with character and charm to blend in with the grade ll listed building. Dominic engaged from start to finish with professionalism and took all the pressure from me with the whole design, planning and all the meetings involved. Our Edwardian vegetable garden and rockery were restored and redesigned with sensitivity and skill by Dominic and the team. The York stone paths and the rockery were restored and recycled into the new design which kept the integrity of the original while repositioning the raised beds and creating a beautiful vista from the house. Existing plants carefully replaced and the expert wall and crazy paving team were meticulous in their attention to quality and detail.

Dominic and his team were fantastic from start to finish! Dominic drew up plans for a redesign of part of our garden - replacing old decking with a new deck and pergola, pruning existing overgrown bushes, reshaping the lawn and planting new borders. Once work began, it was carried out in an extremely professional way by all involved - I also felt that the whole team really cared about the work they were doing. The pergola and decking were built on-site and we love the craftsmanship involved. Once Dominic began the pruning and planting, it was very apparent that he had amazing knowledge about what plants work well together and in different areas of the garden. The work was completed in very good time and with great attention to detail. Once the garden was finished, Dominic came back and talked me through all the plant names and care required and even offered to come back next year to help with pruning and advice (I will be taking you up on this Dominic). I kept looking out of our kitchen window and saying "Love it, love it, love it!" We were lucky to get the work done quite early in the summer, so really enjoyed the garden and it still looks great. I would 100% recommend Bottle Kiln Design.

Our property is Grade 2 listed and is in a conservation area. We have a steep garden at the back of the house which was terraced many years ago. A set of 22 stone steps leads to the upper part of the garden. These steps are made of large pieces of rough local stone. They are on a curve and each step is a different height and width. We wanted a set of railings that would match with the original Victorian ones at the front of the house and provide a level of safety. We had several people look at the project. Most didn't even get back to us as it was so daunting. Dominic drew up plans and we discussed small amendments. We felt fully involved and informed throughout the process. He and his team did a great job. The railings are completely in keeping with the property and the scale is perfect. The men also kept the area clean and tidy throughout. We would definitely recommend this company.

Over this winter, during a period of quite unprecedented weather, our garden has been completely transformed by the BKD team. From the initial drawings, costings and meetings through to completion, Dominic has calmly communicated and guided the project. Loved Dominic's approach to designing our garden landscaping. We'd had some ideas, and he took these and built on them. We never felt railroaded or rushed. We were really pleased to be able to recycle old York stone slabs in the scheme. Ongoing dialogue as the job progressed was great, and the site team were a pleasure to have around. In June 2019 I employed Bottle Kiln Design to create a new front path and help me with planting new borders. This was the second time they had worked for me. Dominic Stone is a pleasure to work with. He is obviously a skilled, artistic landscape designer and gardener, but also listens to the client to incorporate their ideas and requests. He is willing to accompany clients to nurseries and stone masons and is careful to advise regarding costs. His team, who carried out the work are skilled, pleasant to have around and tidied up every day. In short I would thoroughly recommend this firm.

Professional job from start to finish. I was impressed with the management of the site and the the project overall. Really pleased with the results. We had stone gateposts repaired and new gates hung. Additional works undertaken included digging out concrete from behind an old stone wall to allow for a new hedge to be planted, and an old rockery dug out and landscaped. We also had some repairs to an old brick wall. I would recommend Bottle Kiln Design and plan to use this company again.

Bottle Kiln Design did an excellent job with our blank canvas garden. From a thoughtful design taking into account our requirements to bring in nature and the efficient manner the work was carried out with minimal disruption. We were kept fully informed of everything that was taking place and there were no delays or unexpected surprises along the way. Hi Dominic designed and installed a garden at the end of our daughters self build project in November 2019, The work was of the highest standard, the guys were reliable and trustworthy and often went over and above to make sure everyone was 100%. The volume of plants was a big surprise they just kept coming, I'm looking forward to seeing them in bloom in 2020. they're coming back when it stops raining to quote on our garden, and would have no doubt on recommending them

Dominic operates a great service. It is so good to meet a builder that is honest, reliable and always is there to help. Dominic replaced the conservatory roof and sorted out several problems with the existing window fittings. We now have a new conservatory again. Morne supports Dominic and provides all the back up on the job. Whenever there was an issue he sorted it. It was great to have them about.

In this hurly burly world is is quite extraordinary to find a person, a team, and a synthesis of cooperation, kindness, willingness, and sheer hard graft. It was an absolute delight to discover Dominic and the Bottle Kiln lads who could not have been better. Everything was first class, from the initial appointment with Dominic, softly spoken, keenly attentive to your requirements, prompt and professional in delivering a plan, and hugely efficient in delivering the plan. The lads never complained in spite of the weather and the trials of the job, were always courteous and smiling, and simply just got on with it with a glad heart. We engaged Bottle Kiln to re-landscape our garden in summer 2019. We are very pleased with the finished job and with how the project was managed all the way through from the initial design to completion. It did take a little bit longer to complete than initial expectations, but our patience was rewarded with a great end result. Works done included splitting the garden onto two levels, laying tiles, wall, turf and planting.

Absolute delight to work with the Bottle Kiln team. Meticulous design and detailed accurate costings incorporating my own specific ideas, but with fantastic added vision and expertise. Dominic is very talented in designing sympathetically in a conservation/historic context and actively re-used original and reclaimed materials to deliver a garden space sympathetic to the house and an absolute pleasure to enjoy every day. Dominic and his talented team did an amazing job of turning an overgrown, poorly landscaped and unusable part of the garden in our new home, in to usable, nature friendly, feast for the eyes and senses appreciated by ourselves and our neighbours. Bottle Kiln Design - very thorough work and kept informed from the outset of the project from design to planning and during the build. Dominic and his team were concientous all the way through with our needs and expectations. Like any project which was quiet large with the removal of the whole back of our existing dwelling (in the winter!) we knew with meetings on site what was being done and what was to be done. Decisions and changes were discussed all the way along and project managed in a way which was not disruptive considering the work that was involved. The budget was adhered to and it was no trouble to change things as the development progressed. The outcome met all our expectations and more. In addition we decided to commission the garden works alongside the build to complete the job. The after service also has to be commended and if any problem arises one of Dominic's team attended for any minor alterations. Overall very satisfied.

This is the second garden BKD had ckmpleted for me and I am as delighted with this one as I was with the first one. The project was completed on time and on budget. The design was imaginative and exactly to the brief. The costings provided showed all the material and labour costs broken down by category so I fully understood how the final figure was calculated. It was all superbly professional and the same foreman worked on the build every day .. and he was the same man who completed my previous garden landscaping 15 years before!

We first approached Dominic Stone of Bottle Kiln Design with a pipe dream of buying land from a local farmer and adding it to our current, tiny garden. Living in a World Heritage Site and Conservation area we knew it would be difficult to not only obtain the correct consent but to create something sympathetic to the local heritage/area. From the very first meeting we knew we were in the right hands. Dominic was confident, knowledgeable, calm and honest. He clearly was also excited by the challenge and passionate about creating something special for us. We felt totally able to leave things in his hands and he handled everything for us from obtaining consent from the local authority to designing and planning the whole project. I have to add here that both my partner and I have notoriously high standards and expect to drive projects forward,yet we knew immediately that there would be no need with Dominic and his team. Communication, attention to detail, accurate and transparent costings and reliability were second to none. We were able to take a total step back and let them get the job done. Throughout the actual build project which started on 4th January and ended today, we have had the pleasure of a fantastic team of craftsmen and labourers who have been polite, courteous, reliable and good fun. They have all taken pride in their work and have been rewarded with bacon cobs, biscuits and tea! The job had been completed today and we are thrilled to bits with the outcome. It is beyond anything we could have imagined and we are absolutely over the moon. We will be recommending Bottle Kiln Design to all friends and family without hesitation.

I was really happy with Bottle Kiln. They were professional, knowledgeable and experienced. They were able to interpret and deliver what I was after. The standard of work was high throughout. The teams were well trained, hardworking and personable. Despite challenging weather at times, the deadlines were met. I wouldn't hesitate to call on them again.

We had a new build house so our garden was a blank canvas. Not being very creative we contacted Bottle Kiln after a recommendation from a neighbour and that is the best decision we ever made. Dominic is a great listener (we had lots of ideas but not any semblance of design or cohesion). His design, scale drawing and fully costed, was exactly what we wanted/ dreamed of and all within a week of his visit. After a few minor tweaks, the plans were agreed and work started before we knew it. His workers are a good bunch of characters and the standard of work very high. There are no corners cut, he won’t be the cheapest but you get what you pay for. All materials and labour are priced transparently. Dominic will work with you if you have a budget in mind by simplifying the design or offering more cost effective materials. I couldn’t rate him highly enough.

We had been in our house for around 5 years and the garden was an area that we never really focused on. After undertaking an extension we were left with large areas of the garden that needed urgent attention. On buying a new build house we were left with a sloping poorly landscaped garden which was unusable much of the year due to a lack of drainage with the plants and turf dying due to poor soil quality left by the developers. Dominic came and discussed our needs for a usable low maintenance garden and presented a number of draft plans with multiple levels to transform the sloping site into connected feature areas and embracing the available views. His team worked through the agreed plan quickly and courteously with quality materials and craftsmanship to give exceptional finished results. They incorporated all necessary drainage and replaced all the topsoil to rectify the issues left by the developer allowing the excellent planting to thrive. Despite the incorporation of much larger structural areas the overall feel of the garden is much bigger as Dominic's eye for proportion has brought a balance between the hard landscaping, lawn areas and planting. I would highly recommend whether you need just ideas and plans or full project delivery as all is done to a high standard.

We initially contacted Bottle Kiln Design in order to obtain a quote for a partial garden design. Dominic came up with some good ideas which were in keeping with the existing features of our garden, and we fully intend to utilise their services. However, whilst at our property, we mentioned an ongoing leaking problem that we had with a flat roof that had been added to our property in the past, and which linked the garage to the house. This had got so bad that water literally gushed in when it rained. Dominic took a look at it and informed us that it was a relatively straight-forward job. This was at variance to numerous other tradesmen that had done a lot of "teeth-sucking" and found nothing but problems, promising to quote for the work and then disappearing without trace. Dominic conducted a thorough survey of the problem, discussed our requirements and expectations and then his Company went to work. His employees were polite, courteous and professional and tidied up as they went along. We now have a fabulous angled glass roof linking the house to the garage that lets in loads of light and of course does not leak. I would highly recommend Bottle Kiln Design; they are probably not the cheapest, but , as they say "you get what you pay for". We will certainly be having Bottle Kiln back to do our garden, and some other projects.

Dominic designed and has built two superb bus shelters in our village for the Parish Council during my Chairmanship. The construction is brick, tile and timber using reclaimed products. The oak frontages add to the rustic charm of the features included, and I have personally observed passers by make a diversion to sit inside and admire the quality of construction before continuing on their way! His workforce worked diligently and carefully with the minimum of disruption to bus users during the construction period,

I imagined finding someone to complete a full garden makeover would be quite simple? How wrong I was, firstly there are many companies that will block pave your drive, build you a patio, lay turf. How many will visit, discuss, sketch, advise on materials and plants then make it all happen. Beautiful, unique,bespoke design and build by craftsmen with passion. At the same time as building our summerhouse, almost exclusively with reclaimed materials they constructed a beautiful Derbyshire stone wall and then landscaped and planted so that within weeks it looked as though it has always been there.

Enhancing our penthouse roof terrace so we can enjoy spectacular views of Nottingham. Bottle Kiln Design were completely professional and courteous throughout the 8 weeks they were on site. Having seen some of Bottle Kiln's work in friends' gardens we chose them to landscape the garden of our new house. Dominic has a flair for garden design and produced plans which fulfilled all our requirements and also added some imaginative twists of his own. He and his friendly team were very professional and carried out all works to a high standard. We particularly liked his use of reclaimed materials. Bottle Kiln Design have designed and performed a number of major projects for us over the last 10 years. The projects have included major reconstruction of a large walled terrace, with a pond and two fountains, and with stairs and a walkway down to our garden. The attention to detail in planning and construction, alongside imaginative and sympathetic use of reclaimed materials, has been fantastic. When a subsequent defect was identified in wiring (provided by an external source), Dominic and his team were helpful and supportive as they worked to rectify a situation (most certainly NOT of their making) and restore the area to full function. Various other garden projects have included restoring a Victorian orangery with an extension into a garden room, landscaping around a pond area and creating a safe, secure and stimulating space for our dog! We could not recommend Dominic and his team more highly for the professional way they have designed and constructed all the projects they have for us. The designs have been tight to our brief, imaginative and sympathetic to existing structures. We are happy to share images (before and after) the excellent work they have done for us.

We have been using Dominic to do all our landscaping design and building work for the past 25 years as have both our neighbours and other local friends. It was obvious from the outset that he had a flare for structure layout and proportions of garden settings. In fact without hesitation we can say that not only do we believe he is extremely talented but also the execution of his plans are carried out to a very high standard. We have always had complete faith in him, and this is high praise from people who in fact are rather "fussy" and critical as to quality of work. Over the years he has taken what had become a rather old fashioned and tired garden surrounding our Edwardian house to a garden which is much more usable, relaxing and sympathetic to its surroundings. This work progressed over the years to design and build structures such as walls, stairs paths, tea house, green house with matching work shed, all together with a planting design which is lovely and flowing and met our need to have a garden that minimised the amount of upkeep necessary. These changes have all been made with an eye to the cost involved in the execution, minimising this cost wherever possible without compromising the quality of the work. We would also like to mention that we have recently asked Dominic to develop plans for an indoor outdoor large kitchen extension. We had over the years employed two separate architects to come up with concepts for this project but were never happy with the their designs as they failed to complement the house and meet our brief. Dominic has produced something with which we are absolutely thrilled, in the style of an Edwardian lantern house. Needless to say we are delighted with Dominic's work. He is very organised, professional and reliable. He is a good communicator, a pleasure to work with and ensures at all stages that the work is done to a high standard.

Bottle Kiln design have carried out two projects for me. The first was the transformation of my garden, the second creating a beautiful studio from an old derelict building. There are a number of things impressive about BKD: Creativity of design. Listening to the customers ideas and needs. Reusing materials where possible and avoiding waste - a green response. Providing detailed plans and costings and keeping to them. Realistic and clear pricing. Giving realistic time estimates and keeping me up to date if they had to be altered. Excellent and ongoing communication. A thoroughly professional approach. I would definitely recommend Bottle Kiln Design and would use them again for any future projects. .

We engaged Dominic Stone to redesign our rear garden, front garden and driveway with excellent results. The designs evolved over a number discussions where Dominic would share many ideas and options and adapt these to our wishes before finalising the plans. For many people, visualising a finished garden from plans is very difficult and Dominic was always willing to discuss alternative ideas and integrate these as the project progressed. His knowledge of shrubs and plants was impressive and while we added many new items to our garden Dominic was always very keen to recycle as many of our existing plants as possible and integrate these into the finished garden. We introduced a new water feature into our garden but the biggest challenge was to temporarily move and then successfully relocate an existing live pond. The frogs were spawning within weeks of the project being finished. The professionalism and attention to detail is commendable and his workforce were reliable and hard working. Back in 2006 Dominic had designed a new garden for us which had many admirers and in 2013 we decided to build our own house. We discussed the project with a number of architects but were not getting what we wanted. We knew that Dominic had designed and built a number of larger projects and so, on the off-chance, we arranged a meeting. We worked together and quickly came up with a design which was perfect for the plot and ticked all our boxes. Dominic was very honest in saying that he had never built a house before - nor had we – but we followed our instincts and with us working together in sourcing materials and fittings and with Dominic on site every day working and project managing we came up with the house of our dreams. Scrupulously honest, the patience of a saint and unprepared to cut any corners Dominic will always be committed to your project and left to work to produce the best outcome you could hope for.

We have had our garden completely re-landscaped. Dominic drew an initial design which we then worked on together as our ideas developed. We were given options on how we wanted to work with the team and how much we wanted to be involved in the day to day project management - a very flexible approach. The work was carried out efficiently and to a high standard and we are extremely happy with the result which continues to develop as the garden matures.

Our 2 year search for a Landscape Architect/Builder came to an end when we employed BKD, Dominic's experience was vast and he could take on the complex task of designing a garden with specific idea of bringing a blend of Provence and a Cotswold type garden to fruition. The result was stunning and we liked the fact that we were consulted at each stage of progress and our ideas were listened to and modifications made along the way. Nothing was too much trouble for this firm and the workforce were very diligent and considerate. All workmanship was of a high standard and job completed within the set time framework. Reliability was excellent and attention to detail was significant throughout the project. BKD are now designing a conservatory to complement the fabulous garden created for us.

Bottle Kiln Design carried out two garden design and installation projects for me during 2013 and 2014, one rather larger than the other, and a small driveway drainage project in 2015. Dominic Stone approached each project in his usual competent and professional way with detailed sketches and an equally detailed breakdown of costs. He is very innovative and has an uncanny knack of being able to visualize the finished product from the very beginning. I particularly liked the way Dominic would use reclaimed stone to build walls and paving, as well as using new materials. Dominic gave each of my projects his undivided attention and, in my experience, I found Dominic Stone and the Bottle Kiln team truly capable of tackling all areas of garden design and installation to an undoubtedly high standard, and to the time scale predicted. I am very pleased with the work we have had done by Bottle Kiln Design.

Bottle Kiln Design provided a complete design and build service as well as liaising with all necessary external bodies (planning, local authorities, building regs etc). The project started as a replacement of a conservatory and a small extension upstairs but ended up as a complete remodeling of the upstairs of the house with the entire roof being replaced as the old roof was found to be structurally unsound. The Bottle Kiln team were always pleasant no matter what new obstacles were encountered. Much of the walls were stone faced from rock dung up from the garden. Bottle Kiln Design also carried out extensive remodeling of the large garden area building many dry stone walls and also an ancient looking tower and battlements. We call part of the new garden "Stonehenge" because of the huge size of the rocks used - it is truly impressive. Again Bottle Kiln provided a complete service from design to build and planting which included selection of plants. We would highly recommend Bottle Kiln Design - they are currently working with us to try to obtain planning permission to build a new house.

Dominic stone is a perfectionist, and his work, and that of those who employs, is of a very high standard. He can create solutions for unusual problems and has design ideas that can be very effective and attractive. We contracted with bottle kiln for building works.

Dominic Stone of Bottle Kiln Design first provided a garden design and install contract at my previous property Old Engine Farm, Ashover Derbyshire in the early 1980's. I moved to Derry House, Matlock in 1997. I again sought Dominic out to provide a complete garden design and install, first in the late 1990's and again a more recently to refresh the original scheme with new paving to rear areas and to pave the original tarmac drive plus to lay significant surface water drainage channels and pipes. The experience I have of Dominic and his company is beyond excellent in terms of design expertise, product knowledge, installation skill, prompt work scheduling and commitment to his customer. His pricing has always been in my view realistic. In terms of his personal integrity, from the considerable experience I have had over a prolonged period of time it is beyond question, one hundred percent reliable.
