Marcus Peel

I’m a UK-based commercial and fine art photographer, specialising in architecture, interiors and environmental portraits. Architecture serves as my inspiration. It’s compatible with the way that I view the world and how I respond to it through the camera. I’m a perfectionist at heart which is fundamental to my photography; both in the observation of light and form, as well as composition. Derived from personal intrigue, I take a more investigative approach. I strive to go beyond the ordinary to photograph the extraordinary and enjoy creating a blur between the real and the surreal. I love abstraction. I’m a purist when it comes to the treatment of my photographs and how I represent each subject, always aiming to preserve authenticity. First introduced to photography at secondary school, I took the opportunity to explore through study, and soon discovered my interest in form, geometry, symmetry, and abstraction. Towards the end of my photography degree at The Surrey Institute of Art and Design, I began assisting two architectural photographers, an experience which confirmed my desire to pursue architectural photography. In 2000, I began my career as a professional photographer. Clients include advertising agencies, design companies, PR companies, artists, art galleries, architects, interior designers, property developers, hotel groups and luxury brands. My work has been seen in publications, including; Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveller, Elle Decoration, House & Garden, Frame, Icon, Interior Design, RIBA Journal, The Architects’ Journal, Vogue and Wallpaper*. I’ve also been interviewed about my work by photography and architecture magazines and online platforms. I’ve won numerous awards including Best in Category in the AOP Photography Awards, Gold in Px3 and Silver in the Graphis Photography Annual. I’ve held exhibitions at a variety of galleries including Anise Gallery, London, Espace Dupon, Paris and Splashlight Studios, New York. My work is held in corporate and private collections.
