Help with Front Beds

Hi, I am hoping to get some help coming up with a design for the garden beds in the front of my house! I am by no means a gardener or know much about it, so I’m looking for plants that are easy to maintain. Also, before we moved in the previous owner removed all plants in the garden so we are starting from scratch. I’ve included a photo of our exterior, I was thinking of doing azaleas, lavender but not sure what else! Thanks for the help

Plant bed along the front house wall, damp issues?
Comments (4)We haven’t ever had damp problems , the house is 1920’s so I don’t know about the old part of the house on the left of the door but the new extension on the right has a good robust dampcourse. I have tried pots in the past, but I do get full sun all day long and me forgetting to water becomes an issue . I have got more plants in the ground along my front and I like that I don’t have to water them, only maintain them. Many thanks for alerting me on the damp course. Comments (7)I actually think having your bed in the dormer window looks really good. The way the current venetian blinds show the view of your (?) garden is a beautiful backdrop. Wouldn’t it be a shame to loose that? I do like your idea though to have painted blinds. I’m sure there are artists that can and are willing to do that....See MoreFront door needs help. Comments (4)Hi, are you in the UK? Just that I’ve never seen sand used in that way. With the path you could add small pea shingle around the paving slabs to tidy it up a bit. If that is your front garden on the left, then as Ellie suggests, planting will help. However, sand is not nutritious enough to grow plants in, unless you have the climate to grow cacti and succulents. What to grow depends on your location and whether the area is sunny or shady. Comments (10)A continuous hedge would add to your privacy but you would need something mature or fast growing to get the benefit from in short term. I see a small hedge beside the path. Looks like box. Slow growing and disease prone so may not be the best option. I see your neighbours have what looks like a beech hedge. Beautiful year round (deciduous but leaves stay on in winter) but not very fast growing either. We planted Portuguese Laurel and, while a lovely hedge, I’ve heard since that it’s been hit by disease recently. Grisilinia is fast growing but most gardeners feel it’s like a weed!
