Metal & Butter recently renovated our bathroom, which was in a terrible state when we bought our house. They listened carefully to our preferences - style, budget and availability for the work - and helped us to realise our vision in a supremely professional and helpful way. The final product is elegant and simple and includes a beautiful bespoke cabinet. Alex and Zac Colchester are both pleasant, efficient, straightforward and knowledgable and I would highly recommend their company.

I hired metal and butter to build a custom storage solution for thousands of records, my turntables and associated kit. They provided really helpful advice in scoping the job and produced some excellent plans of the proposed design. They sourced some really beautiful English oak and custom built the frame and brackets from metal with a custom finish. The final product has transformed my room and I am really pleased with the results. I would recommend them for jobs large or small.

Alex and his team did an exceptional job refurbishing our 3 bedroom Victorian maisonette. There was a huge amount to do including a completely new plumbing and heating system, rearranging our bathroom layout, painting and decorating, and designing and building a new kitchen. Alex took into account our cost constraints and produced a plan to get the work done within our budget. He also did a great job of finding contractors to do these jobs along with negotiating costs and managing their work. I honestly don't think we could've undertaken such a huge project without Alex and his team - they were always a pleasure to work with and are great communicators. We are really delighted with the overall result which was delivered on time and within budget.

Super professional outfit, these guys are genuinely passionate about their craft, inventive with their solutions and absolute perfectionists on the finish. They have done two project for me to date and I've been blown away both times, and reminded that their continues to be real craftsman out there. I highly recommend them.

We instructed Metal & Butter to refurbish a small barn in West Sussex. They turned what was effectively a garage full of junk into a beautiful, high spec and totally functioning mini house. They provided a full design, project manage and build service and we can not highly recommend enough their flair for design and exceptional attention to detail. They provided very useful 3D images, a very detailed brief and estimate which they did their best to stick to. The team were really professional, friendly and considerate throughout the project and meticulous to the last minute and detail. We are looking forward to instructing them again in the future.

Alex conceptualised, designed and executed the renovation of my second-floor flat in a Victorian house. Three things really stood out working with Metal&Butter and made the journey truly enjoyable: 1. Seamless Project Management -- at every stage and every component, project delivery was masterminded by a single point of contact. I never had to worry about timelines/contractors/cost-overruns. I could even happily take a holiday in the middle! 2. Practical Design Choices -- because Alex has such broad building/carpentry experience as well as design, he is an expert at advising what trade-offs to make between bespoke vs. off-the-shelf. As a result, thanks to some clever touches, I got a 100% hand-made look throughout the property, but a fraction of the cost. 3. Collaborative Design -- Alex is a master at taking elements of an individual aesthetic vision and turning them into a coherent, workable and affordable project. Without losing the personal dimension!

I commissioned four projects from Metal and Butter. They were complex and I was only interested in the highest possible standard of workmanship. -In our garden they created a magnificent boule pitch, a fire pit and three raised beds.All needing special design and research. They are a huge success. -In one of the reception rooms they created four, beautifully crafted, fitted library shelf units, with cupboards underneath. As a result they have made a beautiful Library. These units, in their detailed craftsmanship, are much admired by all who see them. - Metal and Butter are experts in using Coreon, so I asked them to make a highly specialised multi drawer unit to house my collection of 'treasures'. This has been a triumph! Each drawer is extractable, all of different sizes, and the whole unit is flush when closed and uses automatic doors when the drawers are pulled out on an ingenious, spring and release mechanism designed by the company. - they made two units for my wife's dressing room, with the capacity to house winter and summer clothes and many shelves for other clothing and shoes. The resulting design is intensely practical and economical with space. All works were done on time, on budget. It is impossible not to note that, at every stage, in the planning, and implementation process Metal and Butter were courteous, enthusiastic and constantly creative, particularly in sourcing and coming up with solutions to challenging design issues. I would use this company again like a shot. Metal and Butter are great!

M&B recently completed an extensive complex renovation project to our 3 bedroom apartment including a new large kitchen and 2 bathrooms, involving extensive carpentry as well as metal and glass work. The quality of work and craftsmanship was outstanding. Their scientific knowledge and skills are well grounded and enabled them to provide bespoke solutions to the complex design requirements of our project. They completed the project within their estimated budget and to our time requirements. They also managed and coordinated numerous other trade and craftsmen and helped us with design decisions and material choice through out the project. Overall they were a real pleasure to work with. They kept our project on track with great support and allowed us to make our dream home a reality. I would thoroughly recommend them.

These guys are fantastic to work with and offer a very bespoke approach to everything they do. If you want to create something from scratch or copy something but with a twist then these guys are the people to work with. Note also that they install all their own creations which is key for the overall service! Very impressed!
