Painting furniture - a crime or necessity? Help
Comments (115)Oh I am completely green with envy! To buy a beautiful house and score all that gorgeous furniture - how fabulous! I haven't read all the posts but agree that to paint most of these pieces would be a crying shame. I also agree with having a few antique dealers look at your furniture and assess it's value; then sell the pieces you're not so fond of & enjoy those pieces you love.. At the risk of causing upset to anyone, the only pieces I'd consider painting would be those that are damaged beyond restoration but could still be usable &/or functional.... My head is still spinning at all that fab furniture - IF you could find it in Australia you'd be paying $$$$$$!...See MoreHelp! What are your top tips for shopping 2hand furniture online?
Comments (8)My biggest tip is do not do any online shopping when you've had a few, unless you want to experience the pleasure/pain of checking your eBay account to see "Congratulations you are the winning bidder" only to realise that the item is at the opposite end of the country, the seller does not arrange transport and you don't even remember why you wanted it. (Or is that just me). Other things would be to ask the seller to confirm the measurements (especially where a few millimetres difference would be critical) and hope that they can read a tape measure properly. Don't be afraid to ask for additional photographs including close-ups, if the seller can't be bothered, then don't be too sure that the item is as described, a description saying good condition can be subjective and don't forget that the camera can lie, especially with colours. If you are looking for something fairly commonplace then it can be worth waiting for it to turn up close enough to home, so that you can try to have a look before committing yourself; for the rare items you may have to take a chance, the worst case is that if you really don't like it you might have to sell it on again. And last of all, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is....See MoreNeed Help with Furniture Layout Please - End of Terrace House

Comments (9)Hi Lorraine. lovely big rooms I think an equal length corner unit should fit centrally under the double windows and in front of the hall door and an armchair or small love seat by the side window. The tv sited nearer to the side window rather than central perhaps. Lamps, maybe, could go on a sideboard or console across the back of the sofa in front of the entrance hall door as there won‘t be room for a side table by the pocket doors. The entrance door would work better hinged the other way and a floor switch if you go with this plan but it sounds like it might be too late to change light switches etc. Hope this helps, I have drawn a plan but I don’t seem to have much luck uploading at the weekend!!...See MoreLuke Buckle
