Comments (3)We have a couple of fireplaces like this, one in a bedroom, one in a bathroom and have carpeted right up to them. No hearth. Look absolutely fine. Blocked/closed off the flue, used Zeebrite on the grates and then filled them with pine cones....See MoreSmall Studio Flat Remodel Approx. 26m2

Comments (2)Yes an oak top and painting the tiles sounds like a good solution if you just want it to look better / more in keeping with the rest of the room and you don't plan to use the fire. If you want to be able to use the fire then make sure whatever paint you use and mantlepiece top you install will be compatible with the heat from the fire and not combustible. As an alternative you could also tile over the top of it with something more modern looking but this would take a bit more skill and more cost - it would change the texture of it though and keep it fireproof (as long as the tiles you use are sufficiently heat resistant and suitable)....See MoreKitchen remodel and build
Comments (12)I can appreciate how very proud you are of your work and so you should be and I'm sorry this isn't what you want to hear, but whilst I can appreciate it would be wonderful for a bit of "theatre" when entertaining guests and how captivated they may be by the lighting display (although I'm not sure it would cut any ice with anyone I know), I'm at a bit of a loss to see how the kitchen would function every day as a working kitchen. I'm not a great fan of style over substance and I simply don't understand the odd, disjointed set up. For me the function of a kitchen is far more important than any amount of feature lighting or statement pieces. It seems the bit with the island, is all for show and the "back kitchen" is rather austere (and if you don't mind me saying) somewhat unappealing and quite grim to work in. Not least because the Cinderella kitchen appears to be poorly laid out with little thought given to function. All that said, if it were done for a client, I'm sure they were delighted with it....See MoreGeometra Design Ltd.
